Meanwhile, a conversation was taking place at Stardust Hotel.
“What’s wrong with you? You’ve been absent-minded all night.” Denzel Howard stretched out his arm
and wrapped it around Christopher’s shoulder. He then asked, “Now that the collaboration with the 3A
Group has been finalized, why do you look so unhappy?”
“No, I’m not.” After coming to his senses, Christopher glanced at Denzel unemotionally. “Thank you for
what you did.”
“There’s nothing to thank me for.” Denzel waved his hand casually. “Smith and I studied at the same
university, and he’s the heir to the 3A Group. Besides, we are buddies, and all I did was act as the
middleman between you and him. It isn’t a big deal, so don’t stand on ceremony with me. Let’s talk
about you instead—what are you thinking about?”
What am I thinking about? This hotel, probably. What a coincidence that Denzel chose to negotiate the
collaboration here. This is where I spent a night with that woman, and we even ended up having a
baby…
Christopher frowned slightly, for he also felt that he had let his mind wander a little too far that day. He
always prioritized his work over everything else, so how could he be absent-minded all night because
of such a tiny coincidence?
“Hey, Christopher!” When he noticed how silent Christopher was, Denzel assumed that he was zoning
out again. Hence, he shook his hands in front of him.
Just then, the cell phone in Christopher’s pocket rang. As he took out his cell phone, Denzel
immediately leaned over. When he saw the name ‘Diane Cornell’ flashing on the phone’s screen, he
teased and said, “Who is this? Is it your wife? Is she calling to ask where you are? Are you even a
man, Christopher? How could you become so obedient to your wife just days after getting married?”
The furrows in Christopher’s brow deepened. After staring at the phone’s screen for a while, he
eventually decided against answering the phone in front of Denzel. As such, he put his cell phone back
into his pocket and said, “You’re kidding me. How could she be asking me where I am?” He raised his
long eyebrows coldly with nonchalance written all over his face.
Denzel laughed. “That’s more like it—that’s more like what a man does. I thought you were going to
have a change of personality to the extent that you’d go home without hesitation as soon as your wife
calls you, Young Master Wayne.”
“How could that be possible?” Christopher shot him a disdainful look.
Denzel bared his teeth in a grin. With his arm hooked around Christopher’s shoulder, he then
suggested, “In that case, let’s not go back tonight. We’ll find somewhere else, have another drink or
two, and have Jeremy and the others over. It’s been ages since we’ve last gathered. Let’s go…”
In the end, Christopher left with Denzel without saying a word. He thought to himself, A change of
personality… If I fall in love with a woman, I might change my personality for her. However, Diane will
never be this woman—there won’t be such a thing as love between us.
The night was dark, and the cell phone in his pocket never rang again.
…
Meanwhile, Diane clenched her cell phone in her hand and stared at it for a long time after making a
phone call at the police station, but she didn’t try again. She didn’t know whether it was fear or
something else that had gotten into her, but she didn’t want to call him again regardless.
After giving it some thought, she ended up calling Scott. Since Scott was Christopher’s assistant,
dealing with such a problem shouldn’t be a problem to him.
Fortunately, the call got through and Scott came without asking much.
Over half an hour later, the police took her to the mediation room. Meanwhile, Norman and Stella had
arrived as well.
In the beginning, Elizabeth still demanded for Diane to be imprisoned at first. After the police told her
that Diane’s actions did not constitute a criminal offense, she kicked up a racket for a while. After
seeing that nothing could be done to Diane, she finally stopped clamoring.
Since she failed to get Diane imprisoned, she began to ask for compensation again. However, the
police told her to go to court instead, saying that she had to bring a lawsuit against Diane and hand the
matter over to the court if she wanted to seek compensation.
Diane and Scott never spoke during the process, for they both knew that it was better to let the police
deal with someone like Elizabeth. The more they responded to Elizabeth, the more trouble they would
get themselves into.
This incident was trivial in the first place, so the police didn’t want to keep them there overnight. Seeing
that both sides had someone standing bail for them, they simply skipped mediating between Elizabeth
and Diane. After having both sides go through the procedures, they had Elizabeth and Diane released.
Elizabeth felt very aggrieved since it could be said that her trip to the police station ended up with
nothing. She kept swearing like a trooper all the time, but Norman—who was a man, after all—also
thought it was too embarrassing of his mother to do this. He chided her in a low voice, upon which she
finally quieted down.
As they left the police station, Elizabeth lunged at Diane again. “Stay where you are, you little wh*re.
What happened today isn’t over yet! You all are rich and powerful, so you have the police on your side.
I’m warning you—I’ll sue you if you don’t pay me compensation for my mental injury!” She even
resorted to using the law as her ‘weapon’.
Diane didn’t move, whereas Scott stood in front of her and looked at Elizabeth with a serious
expression. “Just sue us if you want to—our attorney will keep you company anytime. Mr. Adler…”
Then, he turned his gaze to Norman. “I’d advise you to keep a tight rein on your mother, for I’m afraid
the situation will be more disadvantageous to you all if she keeps going on like this. Mr. Wayne has no
intention of making things difficult for your family at first, but there’s something that you have to be clear
about—there isn’t a kind of person that Mr. Wayne has never seen before, so do you think he’d be
scared by this kind of rude and unreasonable hissy fits?”
Norman and Stella had just been removed from their posts that day, so it could be said that they had
gotten a little taste of how powerful Christopher was. Since they hadn’t gotten over it yet, they turned
pale without saying a word upon hearing Scott’s words—this was a rare occurrence.
“Let’s go, Mrs. Wayne,” Scott then said to Diane as he turned around.
As it happened, Diane was not in the mood to waste her breath talking to them; she merely turned
around to get into the car. Just as she pulled the car door open, Stella suddenly shouted at her from
behind, “Diane, why isn’t Christopher here when you’re in such a predicament?”
For some reason, Diane’s heart shuddered slightly, but she didn’t look back. After pulling the car door
open, she got into the car immediately.
After getting into the car, she leaned back in her seat. The woman had been tossed around that entire
night, so she was both physically and mentally exhausted. Once she fastened her seatbelt, she turned
her head around and said to Scott, “Thank you for today, Scott.”
Scott started up the car and replied, “It’s nothing, Mrs. Wayne—it’s my duty.” He could tell that Diane Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
wasn’t looking well, but he didn’t dare to ask if she had called Christopher. After pondering for a
moment, he decided to keep his mouth shut and concentrated on driving.
Similarly, Diane was in no mood to ask Scott about Christopher either. After the car started up, she
closed her eyes all the way until she reached home.
It was quiet in the house when she got out of the car and stepped inside. She didn’t even have to go
upstairs to know that Christopher never came back even once that night, for there was no scent of him
in the house.
Indeed, what she had expected turned out to be true when she went upstairs. Since she was too lazy
to think about it, she entered the bedroom, took a shower, and went to sleep.
As she was drifting off to dreamland, Christopher stood up from the sofa in a certain clubhouse.
After Christopher left Stardust Hotel, Denzel dragged him here for karaoke and drinks. Denzel even
invited two other friends over, and they were now singing in front of Christopher in shrill and grating
voices with the microphones in their hands.
On the contrary, Christopher looked increasingly glum in the dimly lit private room. After getting up, he
directly walked out of the seats and headed toward the door.
“Christopher…” Denzel grabbed his arm. “Where are you going?”
“I’m tired, so I’m going home to sleep.”
“It’s not midnight yet. How could you be so unenergetic?” Denzel remarked disdainfully.
Christopher ignored Denzel’s contempt and merely replied, “I’ll be leaving first. Just enjoy yourselves
and I’ll pick up the tab.” With that, he left with no signs of reluctance.
Denzel frowned while looking at Christopher’s slightly anxious gait from behind. He muttered to himself,
“What’s the matter with him? He wouldn’t have actually fallen for his wife, would he?”
…
Christopher took out his cell phone again after leaving the private room. When he noticed the missed
call from Scott displayed on the phone’s screen, he called Scott back. A minute later, he hung up and
hurriedly left the clubhouse.
It was already past 12.00AM when he got home. When he saw the woman sleeping peacefully in bed,
his heart—which had been restless all the while—was suddenly at rest. He took a shower and got into
bed without waking Diane up, who was sleeping very soundly. However, he wasn’t feeling sleepy like
her.
As he leaned his back against the headboard and stared at Diane’s sleeping face by the dim light of the
nightlight, he knitted his brows again. This lady wasn’t someone of devastating beauty, and she was
too skinny to feel good to the touch. Furthermore, she was a magnet for trouble; not only had she been
married twice, she even landed herself in the police station on this day. Yet… such a woman actually
tugged at his heartstrings.
Suddenly, Christopher felt somewhat regretful; he regretted his decision back then to register their
marriage so impulsively. Such regret accompanied him all night, causing sleep to elude him for a long
time. It wasn’t until the latter half of the night that he drifted off to sleep. Christopher only woke up from
his slumber in the morning, but before he could even open his eyes, he heard some abnormal sounds.
