Chapter 37 Aversion
After the crowd thinned, Blanche immediately went towards Henry.
"Hi, Henry," Blanche called out, but Henry did not respond and just continued walking forward.
She was right behind him and wondered, "We're so close. Did he not hear me?"
Blanche caught up with him. "Henry."
This time, the person in front of her stopped and turned around, with a cold expression and a chilling demeanor.
"What's up?"
His tone was extremely icy and Blanche felt a chill run down her spine, but she kept smiling.
"Henry, I know you are a very skilled surgeon, and my grandmother has a complex tumor in her brain. I would like to ask you to perform surgery on her. I will gather the money no matter how much it cost," said Blanche.
Henry's gaze shifted from Blanche's face to her feet. Blanche felt like she was being appraised like an object and from Henry's gaze, she could tell he thought of her as an extremely inferior product.
Sure enough, the next second, Henry twitched his mouth.
"It seems you are not well informed. I have already stopped practicing medicine for a long time."
"What? You have stopped practicing medicine?"
Henry did not bother to reply and turned to walk away. Blanche immediately followed.
"When did you stop practicing medicine, Henry?" Henry was known as a very impressive doctor who had never failed in any difficult and complicated surgery.
In the past, he had even succeeded in performing a famous pelvic sacrum tumor surgery that most surgeons didn't dare to perform. In the end, he not only managed to keep the patient's life but also the patient's legs, praised as the best surgeon.
Blanche tried to keep her tone light, but Henry didn't show her any respect.
"Please have some self-awareness. My fiancée is a very possessive person, and I have made it clear. Don't bother me again."
Blanche paused for a moment. Since she first spoke to Henry, she had sensed his aversion towards her.
But she couldn't give up.
"Henry, you misunderstood. I didn't mean to approach you or hook up with you. My grandmother is the most important person in my life and I can't lose her. I know you have changed your career path, but I believe you can still perform the surgery for my grandmother. Please help me. My grandmother is one foot in the grave now."
Henry was even colder this time. "What does your grandmother's illness have to do with me? I warn you! If you bother me again, don't blame me for being rude."
Henry successfully left this time, and Blanche didn't follow. It seemed that she needed to think this through carefully and couldn't act rashly. Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
She felt that something was amiss and wondered, "Is Henry naturally this cold or is he biased against me?"
Blanche pursed her thin lips and thought of a possibility. She looked towards the center of the banquet hall. Louis stood there, listening to the people in front of him.
When they pretended gifts to Old Mrs. Herbart earlier, Louis was standing opposite Henry, and the two of them were in a subtle confrontation. Blanche wondered if the two of them had a terrible relationship, and as a result, Henry also had a strong aversion toward her.
Blanche didn't notice that as she looked downward, a woman in red walked toward Louis, and the two of them walked toward the balcony.
Not long after, Cathy, dressed in formal attire, brought Blanche a glass of red wine.
"Take this glass of wine and give it to Louis. He's on the balcony."
Blanche looked at the glass of red wine in Cathy's hand, feeling puzzled and wondering, "Why did she ask me to deliver the wine? She's eager to get closer to Louis, isn't she? I just looked down, and Louis has already gone to the balcony. He really walked fast."
"The wine is in your hand. If you have to deliver it, why don't you go?" Blanche rejected it.
"It was Mrs. Herbart who asked you to deliver it, not me. But it seems that you really do nothing but freeload. You won't even do something as simple as delivering wine. Louis truly makes a big mistake by marrying you."
