Chapter 31
Chapter 31
Lucy thought for a bit, feeling that it might just be a coincidence.
After all, in order to please Arthur, she had remembered all his favorite dishes while he, on the other hand, despised her so much. How could he possibly know what she liked?
Over the next few days, Lucy waited at Johnson Group.
However, she either didn't get to see Arthur, or couldn't get to him amidst the bustling crowd!
On the other hand, Ms. Wood sent her different kinds of food every day, all of which she liked.
"Mrs. Johnson, I bought an extra set of food. Here, have some."
After Ms. Wood had used the same reason for seven days on end, Lucy finally couldn't hold back. "Ms. Wood, why do you buy extra portions every day?" What's more, all of them were food she liked.
She didn't voice out the latter sentence, feeling that it would make her sound too self-centered.
Ms. Wood immediately felt nervous, and she quickly became alert. "You're my boss, so I should get in your good books! Haha, who knows if you'll put in a good word for me and I'll get a raise!"
Ms. Wood thought, 'Why else? Of course it's because Mr. Johnson asked me to!'
"Then I might have to disappoint you." Lucy didn't suspect anything, but said sarcastically, "Just look, I've already waited for him for a week, but I couldn't even get a word in with him! He's given me the cold shoulder!"
"It's been so hot lately, how cooling it must be to get the cold shoulder!" Ms. Wood made a lame joke and hurried off!
What if she couldn't answer any further questions Lucy might ask?
Lucy's brows furrowed as she gazed after Ms. Wood. Seven days had passed, and the Pate Group's situation was getting more dire, but she couldn't even meet Arthur!
If she still failed to see Arthur that afternoon, she would have to think of other ways!
Fortunately, at four o'clock in the evening, Max came down and said, "Mrs. Johnson, the CEO is waiting for you upstairs."
"Okay." Lucy followed him towards the CEO's elevator with her handbag.
The employees cast furtive glances towards them and sighed secretly.
Lucy must be head over heels in love with Arthur. She had waited seven days just to talk to him!
"Mrs. Johnson, we're here." Max opened the door for Lucy and closed it after her.
In the CEO's office, Arthur, who was wearing a white shirt, was going through documents. His expression was serious and the sunlight outlined his perfect features.
Two of his shirt buttons were undone, revealing his tempting collarbone. He looked erotic and alluring,
mesmerizing anyone who looked at him.
Even though she had seen his face countless times, Lucy was still dazzled when she walked in. She went blank for a moment before getting her senses back.
Arthur acted as if he didn't see her and focused on the documents. He didn't even look up.
Lucy stood by the door, not knowing if she should sit down or continue standing there. Therefore, she stared at him, wondering why he wasn't flipping the pages.
Under her stare, Arthur's heart raced and his started feeling hot all over. Lewd scenes filled his mind, and he couldn't focus on reading at all.
Ring—
Chad sent him a text.
"Arthur, Arthur, have you unbuttoned your shirt? Did you expose your collarbone? Have you succeeded in seducing Lucy?"
Arthur's phone was on his desk. When he received the text, the screen lit up, and every word was laid bare.
Lucy was directly opposite him. His temples were throbbing, and he kept his phone away in the blink of an eye. His hands were trembling because he was so nervous and worked-up.
"I'm not looking, you don't have to be nervous." Lucy raised her eyebrows mockingly.
Once, when his phone had kept on ringing and she answered it for him, he hadn't come home for two months. When he came back, he had changed to a new phone.
Arthur frowned slightly. "Is this the attitude you give someone when you need a favor from them?"
The moment he said that, he regretted it.
He wanted to say something to make up for it, but he didn't know what to say.
"I was impolite, so I apologize." Lucy put her hands by her sides and did a 90-degree bow. "Is this okay?"
"Lucy, do you have to talk to me like this?" Arthur could be totally emotionless in front of anyone. Even if they scolded him, he could respond very calmly.
However, with her, all sense of reason left him. That had been the case five years earlier and was still the case five years later!
Lucy looked down at him. "Then how do you like me to talk? I can change it according to your preference."
Her being so obedient made Arthur burn with rage that he couldn't let out, so he only stared at her icily.
"Arthur." Lucy tried her best to talk calmly. "There's no need to drag innocent people into our business. I hope you can show mercy to the Pate Group."
"You hope? With what identity do you ask this of me?" Arthur stood up and pressed his hands against the desk. His face was less than inches away from hers.
Their breaths intertwined and their gazes locked. However, the atmosphere wasn't romantic, but cut- throat.
Lucy bit down on the inside of her cheek and her nails slowly clawed into her palms.
She knew what he meant, but it hadn't been easy for her to get rid of him. She really didn't want to be involved with him anymore!
"If you can't think of it, then go home and keep on thinking. I don't have time to waste with you!" Arthur's heart sank when she didn't answer him.
Did she hate him that much?
Silence.
The office was so silent that only their breathing could be heard.
A moment later, Lucy took a step backward and distanced herself from him. "Arthur, if you don't like the fact that I asked for the divorce, then you can tell everyone that you were the one who dumped me. It doesn't matter to me."
Besides that reason, she really couldn't figure out why he wanted to reconcile with her... After all, he had always hated her!
"Ha!" Arthur sneered. He wished he could strangle her. If so, he wouldn't have to keep thinking about her!
Lucy frowned slightly. She didn't understand what he meant by that sneer. "What do you think?"
"Do you think you have the rights to negotiate with me?" Arthur sat down and looked at her icily. Out of her sight, his fist was tightening bit by bit.
Knock, knock, knock!
Right then, Max knocked on the door, came in and said, "Sir, Miss Byrd is here."
"Let her in," Arthur said. 'Use other women to make Lucy jealous. Only then will she realize how much you matter.' Thinking of Chad's advice, Arthur immediately agreed to see Lizbeth.
Lucy's expression did not change, but her eyes dimmed a bit.
Regardless of whether it was five years ago or right then, seeing Arthur was a luxury to her while Lizbeth could see him at the lift of a finger.
Lucy really didn't understand. Since he liked Lizbeth, then why was he still holding on to her? Did he really hate to see her living a good life?
Lizbeth walked in cheerfully, but when she saw Lucy, a look of intense hatred filled her eyes. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
However, she quickly adjusted her expression and put on a smile. She walked to the desk and said,
"Arthur, I bought you a necktie. Do you like it?"
She gave Lucy a shove and stood on the spot Lucy had been standing earlier, completely filling Arthur's view.
