Chapter 36

His unfaltering gaze wasn’t helping. It felt like he was looking right though me and that made feel so bare. He inched closer to me and my fingers brushed against his skin. It felt like a million volts of electricity coursed through my body in that split second, sparks were flying in My head and 1 was completely distraught for at least a few seconds, when I finally came back to earth my insides became all mushy and I just wanted to disappear into thin air.

What was he doing?

Was he doing what I thought he was doing?

Was I overthinking things!

What was I myself thinking?

Did his current actions have anything to do with the room that he gave me? Is this why he gave me a room? Technically, he wasn’t doing anything weird, at least not yet. I was the one whose head was spinning out of control. Why was my head spinning out of control?!

Panic engulfed my chest and my head was the loudest place in the quiet room.

Should I throw caution into the wind and run for my life? What was it going to be?

His eyes was locked on mine andmade me hot and sweaty. Thirsty too. Unbelievably thirsty, my throat was so dry, it was almost itchy.

He took off the shirt completely when I was done with the buttons and I swallowed hard.

The room gening hotter by the second or maybe it was just me. It was definitely just me because he looked as cool as a cucumber.

I could barely breathe and he could see that, making it even harder for me.

The way his eyes raked over my body like he was undressing me made me hot. I couldn’t meet his gaze and I looked literally everywhere but at his face. “Everywhere” included his rock hard chest that 1 had just grazed my finger over.

His trouser was a little below his waist and the sight before me was just magnificent to behold. It was like suddenly forgotten that the man in front of me with the s***y rock hard chest made my life a living hell and he wasn’t even done yet.

The man whose breath smelled like everything nice was part of the reason my baby died but why couldn’t I seem to think straight?

“Your face looks like a f**g tomato,” he laughed and it occurred to me that it might have been the first that I had seen him laugh. If I didn’t know him so well, I would have mistook him for an angel. He looked so beautiful, so surreal. The- corner of his crinkled in the cutest way and his big beautiful eyes reduced to nothing but slits on his face.Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.

What was it that he found so amusing? Did he have fun teasing me? Was that what this whole thing was? A ploy to tease me? I wanted to get mad but I couldn’t, not with the face that was staring back at me. He looked entirely harmless, like a baby.

“Why? You haven’t seen a good looking man?”

“What? Who? I don’t… my words were a slur and the smile on his face spread even wider. ask me to, that is,” He purred and my heart threatened to burst out of my chest.

“I won’t bite unless you “Cat got your tongue, huh?” He said in a low voice when I tried to speak but the words got caught in my throat.

Aston’s gaze raked overme, his expression unreadable as he watched me. “You’re dismissed,” he said, his voice barely a murmur as he turned away. 1 scrambled out of the room without a second thought. I wasn’t going to wait till he changed his mind and I had to do something a lot more than taking off his shirt..

I couldn’t care less about slamming the door as I sped out and almost bump into Mara on my way out, it was becoming like a habit. It felt like she was always lurking around doors and waiting for me to bump into her so she could find a good reason to drive a knife inside my chest and not have anyone question her.

She glared hard at me with folded arms and even though all I did was take off his shirt as commanded, I felt so f***g guilty. It was the thoughts that were running through my mind at the time that made me feel so dirty.

Her eyes raked over me condescendingly and she spotted the shirt

“What are you doing with Aston’s shirt?” she asked at once and I almost threw up in panic. It wasn’t like I stole it or anything. why was it that I couldn’t get myself together?!

If my panic wasn’t making her feel like the goddess that she thought she was, she would have known that something was up and at the moment. I was really grateful for her large ego.

“Laundry. I lied and ran past her.

my room and locked the door behind me, my mind reeling with

I fled the room, my heart racing as I made my way back to my questions.

Why did Aston ask me to undress him? Why had he spoken to me with such a dangerous, seductive tone? Or was just the one imagining things?

As I entered my room, I sank onto my bed, my body shaking with adrenaline. I thought about taking a cold shower to calm down but I needed to at least calm my pants first.

My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps outside my door and I was worried that it was Mara. I knew I saw her walk into Aston’s room but I was still scared. I needed to rid myself if this s**d guilt that I felt. I did nothing wrong.

“I did nothing wrong!” I reminded myself and a knock came on the door suddenly, making me fall to my knees in panic. “Who’s there?” I asked shakily and waited for a response.

“Its me, Brax, Can I come in?” he asked so politely that I couldn’t even refuse if I wanted to.

I let him in after fixing the scared look on my face. I didn’t want him getting worried over something that was all just in my head but I guess I didn’t fix my face well enough because his brows furrowed when he saw me.

“Why do you look so flustered?” he asked and I had nothing to say. Absolutely nothing. I opened my mouth to speak but it was like the moon Goddess hit the mute button on me

“Its nice to see you again though, how have you been?” he asked nicely and that I had an answer to. Not a truthful one- though.

Tve been fine. How are you?” I asked not out of concern but just to be polite. I wasn’t doing fine at all, not one bit. It felt like my head was about to explode thinking about my child lately and how rapidly my body was changing like a child was never in it and now Aston just had to go and add to my list of things to think about.

I’ve been doing fine myself, just thought I’d stop by and check on you and also invite you to dinner.” He said and I was a liule confused Hu dinner, did he mean with him or with everyone else that I knew ate at that dinner table. A clarification would definitely help a lot with my answer.

“I don’t think I can, I usually just have dinner in my room.” I said like it was an excuse a

and he smiled

“Well, tonight I’m inviting you to have dinner outside your room I promise it’ll be nice. We’ll just have a chat over dinner.” I hesitated to give him and answer because my silly a** was actually considering it. It was hard to tell him no after all he’ done for me.

He was out of the room faster than the speed of light and I knew that I was stuck in it. I had to go even if I didn’t want to, I couldn’t stand him up.

Mara was glaring at me while picking at her food.

Aston hadn’t looked at me since the meal started.

The maids were giving each other looks and whispering while pretending to work and in the midst of all of this, Brax was chatting away with me like we were the only ones in the room.

His expressions were sincere but I couldn’t look up at him even though I wanted to, I wasn’t confident enough. How could I be when I looked so dirty seated next to him and the rest of them. It was a different thing when he came to my room but sitting here with them just made me feel so out of place.

“Tell me about yourself. I’m curious and I realised recently that I don’t know much about you.” He said and I wonder if he couldn’t read the room or he was just pretending

I agreed that the conversation was going well when it was just the two of us seated at the table. He was such an interesting person to chat and I’d nearly laughed my lungs out but how could I maintain the same energy when Mara and Aston. showed up in the room?!
