Seeing that they stopped talking, Chloe finally felt much better.

“Victoria, Jennifer, I am shallow and vulgar. Please forgive me for my inappropriate statement. After all, I have endured it very hard before. Please show some understanding.”

Michael stood at the corner of the stairs, hidden in the darkness, with an unreadable expression.

He had just gone downstairs and overheard their conversation.

In fact, it was sarcasm.

They had never before, in his presence, deliberately spoken such harsh words to her.

Everyone in the Shawn family was shrewd and hypocritical. Sometimes, when Michael was preoccupied with work, Chloe had to accompany Admas for dinner.

Chloe had previously mentioned that his family wasn’t very friendly to her, but he complained about her being sensitive.

Michael wondered whether they would mock her every time she came back.

But fortunately, it seemed she wasn’t at a disadvantage.

Michael narrowed his eyes slightly.

He trotted to Chloe, reached out his hand to her, and said. calmly, “Dinner is ready.”

At the sight of his hand, she was a little stunned.

Michael’s hands were beautiful with distinct joints, and his palms were broad and powerful. Chloe would often secretly pinch his fingertips while he was asleep.

The pleasure and secret happiness would overwhelm her.

Chloe had imagined countless times that Michael’s hands would pull her out of the abyss, but the cruel reality revealed that it was just her wishful thinking.

There were some things that one could only rely on himself rather than others.

Chloe rose, ignoring Michael’s hand. “I can find the place. Just accompany Admas.”

His eyes darkened. He could naturally discern that this was her

excuse.

He held Chloe’s waist firmly and pulled her toward him.

“Grandpa has someone else with him. I’ll stay with you.”

Chloe’s heart skipped a beat. Admas should have scolded Michael again.

He was an expert at acting according to circumstances.

When they took their seats at the table, Chloe habitually got the tableware and handed a set to Admas first.

Admas beamed with joy.

“Chloe, the dishes today are all your favorites. You are so slim and should eat more.”

Chloe was deeply touched. After she married Michael for so many years, Admas was the only one who remembered her food preference.

She nodded obediently at him.

Since Michael and Chloe had to pretend to be a loving couple in front of Admas, Michael tried his best to take care of her during dinner.

Staring at the seafood on the plate, she was depressed.

Later, she set aside all the food Michael served her, not even taking a bite.

Perhaps because of Admas‘ attention, Michael suddenly leaned over slightly and said in a voice that was only audible to him and Chloe, “Be cooperative.”

Staring at the abalone on her plate, Chloe forced a smile. “I don’t eat seafood.”

Her reply stunned Michael. Before, she cooked the most seafood at home, and he had never heard her express her dislike of it.

He believed she always prepared it because of her predilection.

Chloe placed all the seafood on his plate. “It’s Lucy who enjoys seafood. I’m allergic to it. I simply catered to your taste before. Did you forget that I have to take medicine before meals? However, I didn’t bring it with me today.”

Michael suddenly froze.

He had noticed it before but had never asked her what the white pills she took before meals were.

It turned out to be an antiallergic drug.

Yet, upon hearing her mention Lucy, Michael was impatient.

“What does this have to do with Lucy?”
