Divorcing

Chapter 45

Chapter 45: No Way Out

Chloe held up five fingers. “Couldn’t resist,” she said. “She offered too much.”

“Five million bucks?”

“Add a zero at the end.”

Candy was stunned. “You sold her for fifty million dollars?”

Chloe grinned. “If I can get that much for second–hand stuff, of course I’m selling it!”

As long as the money’s right, not only will she sell the wedding ring, but she’ll even throw in all the jewelry Michael bought her over the past three years to Lucy.

Just after finishing dinner, she got a call from Michael.

Chloe missed the first call.

When the second call came in, Candy nudged her and said, “You need him to agree to the divorce. Better pick it up.” Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

Chloe figured she made a good point and answered the call.

Michael’s voice came through, cold as ice. “You sold the wedding ring?

“Mr. Shawn, seems like you’re keeping an eye on Ms. Campbell’s Twitter. You caught her tweet in under an hour.”

Chloe didn’t answer him directly; instead, she shot back with a mocking question.

“Chloe, speak properly.”

Michael had a bit of a headache.

“What do you mean I didn’t speak properly? You wanted her to get a piece of jewelry she loves. She got it now, so you should be happy for her.”

“That’s our wedding ring!”

“This marriage is already in shambles. The ring is just a piece of rock. If it bothers you that much, I’ll sell it. We’ll get the divorce papers tomorrow, and you can marry Lucy. Then you’ll have a new wedding ring.”

She thought, “Recycling is eco–friendly, right? That second–hand ring belongs on that shameless woman’s finger.”

“Divorce? In your dreams!”

With those words, Michael hung up immediately.

Chloe glanced at her phone screen, utterly unfazed.

She thought, “Fine, let it drag on. I don’t care!”

The next few days, Michael didn’t contact her at all. It was blissfully quiet.

Her phone buzzed beside her.

Chloe glanced at her phone. It was the hospital calling.

“Dr. Durant?”

“Chloe, remember we told you about that new miracle drug at the hospital? It’s supposed to be really effective for your mom’s condition.”

Chloe remembered the last time she went to the hospital, she talked to her mom’s doctor.

“I remember. Is that shipment of meds here?”

“Yeah, but you know those imported meds are limited and pretty effective. Someone else took your mom’s spot.”

Steve Durant sighed, his voice tinged with frustration. As a senior doctor, he clearly had no say in such big decisions.

Chloe jolted upright from her rocking chair, gripping her phone tightly without even realizing it.

“How did this happen? Isn’t the list supposed to be in order?”

“Chloe, it’s the hospital’s call, not mine. Let’s just wait for the next batch of meds.”

Once this imported drug goes into mass production, the strict quantity control will be relaxed.

Chloe understood the stakes, but she knew her mother couldn’t wait any longer!

Wendy has her ups and downs, but the doctor said this medication is a game–changer for her.

“Do you know who took my mother’s spot?”

Steve let out a low sigh.

“Ms. Nelson, I just checked the hospital list. The call was from your husband…”

“Since you’re family, maybe you can have a heart–to–heart with your husband?”

Over the past three years, she had to check on Wendy from time to time. Occasionally, Wendy wanted to see Michael, and she’d have to swallow her pride and beg him.

He didn’t have feelings for Chloe, but he showed up every single time.

Over time, the hospital staff naturally discovered Michael’s true identity.

Chloe blinked, staying silent as her heart sank.

She couldn’t hear a thing now…
