Chapter 38: Some Fruits For You
Eventually, Kylie was driven from the kitchen.
She stood in the living room for a while before gaining the courage to go upstairs. She knocked on the door to his study.
“Come in,” spoke the man in a low voice.
She pushed the door open and poked her head around the corner. “Hi…”
Ethan sat in a big boss chair, with his white shirt sleeves still rolled up to his elbows. His fingers toyed with a valuable pen. Upon seeing her, he paused, then continued to play with the pen.
Kylie came in with a smile and lay the plate of fruit down in front of him.
“Some fruit for you. They’re good for digestion.” It was often said that a man could never refuse a smiling woman. So she smiled.
But he didn’t seem to buy it. He said, with a gloomy face: “Eating fruit immediately after a meal is harmful to the digestive system.”
The smile on her face stiffened. “Maybe I can leave it here so that you can eat it later.”
But his strict voice continued: “Are you sure you want to leave it on the $60 million contracts?”
Kylie wanted to smash the plate and leave.
She thought: Who the hell do you think you are? I’m not your servant.
But she also thought that it would be hard for her to live in this house if he was always wearing a gloomy expression, so she changed her mind about smashing the plate.
With a fake smile, she stretched out her hands to push aside the contract. But he was faster than her and put it in his briefcase with a sudden snap.
Bah, who cares about his secret?
With the plate in her hand, she sat down on his desk. “Working after dinner is also bad for the stomach. How about I tell you a joke, to relax you?”
He leaned back in his chair and looked at her with the beginnings of amusement.
Since he didn’t say no, Kylie tentatively asked: “I can go ahead?!”
He nodded, and she made herself more comfortable on his desk.
“There’s a man calling a girl. The man says: darling, I dreamed about you last night. When I woke up, my pants were wet. The girl responds shyly: oh, you’re so bad, what did you dream of?”
Kylie sneaked a look at Ethan. He didn’t say anything, and his face was still cold.
She wondered that maybe he didn’t get the point. “Can you guess what he said?”
Ethan’s head hurt. How could she simply say a dirty joke, like it was nothing? Although nothing obscene had happened, he already felt a burning in his lower abdomen.
He crossed his long legs to cover his physiological reaction.
Since he didn’t respond, Kylie tossed another piece of fruit into her mouth and swallowed. Then she said: “The man responds: “I dreamed that you removed your makeup, which scared me to the point of pissing my pants! Haha…”
Kylie laughed out loud, and the fruit on the plate almost slid off. As she tried to stop laughing, she discovered that the man had not reacted at all.
Did he not find it funny?
The man struggled for a moment to control the fire, wishing all the while that he could push her down on the table.
He swore that if he had to listen to any more of her dirty jokes, he would probably lose control. As he stood up and left the room, Kylie followed him.
“Not funny? That’s right, and it’s a bad joke. I’ll tell you one more.” She followed the tall man. She couldn’t see his thin lips, which were trying to smile.
“A couple went to the top of a mountain to catch the sunrise. The girl pointed to the sky and said: I see it. The boy shouted back, and said: Yes, me too. Suddenly, another couple came out from some tall grass, and said: so what, what’s the big deal?”
Kylie finished in one breath as he opened the bedroom door. He suddenly stopped, and she almost ran into him. Anyway, that was a form of response, finally.
“How about that one? It’s funny, huh?” Kylie pushed herself in front of him.
A sudden chill came over his body. The face, which had a faint smile, was suddenly covered with a thick layer of ice.
Kylie looked up at him. His dark, deep eyes sharply widened as if he saw something extremely terrible. It wasn’t a ghost story. Why was he overreacting like that?
It’s often said that a woman’s heart is a deep ocean of secrets. But for Kylie, she was becoming more and more confused about the state of that man’s mind.
“If… Ah!” The man suddenly slammed his arm into her and pushed her against the wall.
As the shocked woman turned to look at him, she saw that Ethan was heading straight for the window. He grabbed the curtains.
With almost brute force, he shut the curtains that Kylie opened earlier that day. She had forgotten to close them. She wondered: what’s the big deal?
Plus, Prakrit Mansion was in the best position. It was far away from any of the other mansions, both in front and from the back. No one could look into the privacy of their home.
Was he really that nervous?
“Sorry, I forgot to shut them, but…”
“Who gives you the right?!” the man bellowed. His eyes seemed made up of ice. Kylie had never seen Ethan so furious.
Even though he was rumored to be violent and cruel, the Ethan she had known was simply cold, with a vicious tongue, and sometimes overbearing.Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
He was mad at her for not drawing the curtains. She simply couldn’t accept this.
“I am the hostess of this house. Do I not even have the basic right to open curtains?” she answered back, with a cold face.
The man stared at her and made his hand into a fist.
Kylie rubbed her bruised shoulders and glared at him. “What are you so crazy about today? Everything is so wrong, in your opinion. If you’re fed up with me, just say it. I can leave right away.”
As she turned around, he grabbed her by the neck.
Before she could react, she was thrown onto the bed. The man quickly leaned forward. His eyes were burning, and his forehead was beady with sweat.
