Chapter 37~ We are nothing
Chapter 37- We are nothing
Ryan was about to reply but he paused when Lora's words echoed in his mind. He smiled at Lora and asked, "Are you jealous?"
"What?" Lora was bereft of any words, she stopped walking and glanced at Ryan in disbelief. How did he come up with that conclusion? "Well, you seem so angry that I have a fiancee... the only explanation is that you're jealous," Ryan said with a smirk.
"You-" Lora glared at the man.
Ryan's smile only grew wider and Lora felt the need to correct him. She firmly said, "I'm not jealous! There's no reason to be."
However, Ryan was convinced Lora was jealous. Why else would she be so angry that he was flirting with her when he had a fiancee?Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
His heart felt light for some reason. He smiled and stated, "I'm taking you to the hospital for a checkup."
Before Lora could tell what was happening, she was swept off her feet. Being carried unexpectedly, she instinctively wrapped her arms around Ryan's neck.
When she realised what he had done, she began to kick her legs, demanding, "Put me down! I didn't allow you to carry me!"
"Shhh, you're making noise. Do you want everyone to know I'm carrying you? The way you're screaming would make anyone think we are having a lover's quarrel," Ryan said huskily and Lora stiffened in his arms.
It would be worse if someone saw Ryan carrying her, so she kept quiet, knowing he wouldn't put her down. She didn't want anyone to see them and take pictures.
Ryan smirked when Lora calmed down and he carried her to his car before driving to the hospital.
When they arrived at the hospital, Ryan called for a Doctor and instructed, "I want you to conduct a full body check-up on her. She fell but I want to make sure she's alright."
Lora rolled her eyes. She said, "You're blowing things out of proportion, I just sprained my ankle."
Ryan ignored Lora and told the Doctor, "Make sure you do a full body check-up."
The Doctor glanced at Lora who was in a wheelchair and remarked, "This way, Ma'am."
Lora sighed in resignation. She didn't want Ryan to continue nagging her, so she went for the full body check-up.
When the Doctor brought her back to the VIP ward, Ryan approached them and asked, "How is she?"
The Doctor smiled and assured him, "She's fine. Her ankle is just swollen but after putting some ointment for a few days, it will be ok."
"Are you sure? Did you check if she has any internal injuries?" Ryan asked again.
The doctor glanced at Lora and remarked, "Your husband is so worried about you, Ma'am. He must love

you a lot,"
Lora furrowed her eyebrows. She stated, "He's not my husband, Doctor."
The doctor's eyebrows hiked up. He looked between the two and thought they looked like a married couple.
Chuckling, he said, "Sorry, he was so concerned for you that I thought you two were married."
"We are just strangers. He saw that I was hurt and offered to help, that's all," Lora replied.
On the side, Ryan almost coughed out blood at Lora's remark.
Was she for real? Did she just ca nim a stranger after everything they had been through in the last few weeks?
He gritted his teeth and coiled his hands into fists.
When the doctor left, he stared at Lora and questioned, "Are we strangers even after we worked together?"
"So what if we worked together?" Lora uttered coldly. "What are we if not strangers?"
"I don't agree... we are not strangers," Ryan remarked.
"We will always be strangers, Mr Kingsley. The only thing that connected us was the partnership which is over. Now, we are nothing but strangers. Ryan gulped and felt like someone had stabbed him. Lora's words stung.
He glanced at Lora and saw how she had raised her walls again. The warmth he had seen earlier had gone and she had returned to being cold and distant. Frustration crept into him. How could he understand this woman? Why was she so guarded against him?
"Lora, I-"
Lora's phone buzzed. She glanced at Ryan and said, "Thank you for your help, I'm leaving now."
"Let me take you home, you left your car at the port," Ryan offered.
However, Lora shook her head. She replied, "I'll send someone to get it for me and I've arranged my own transport. I won't be troubling you anymore tonight." Lora got to her feet and limped away. Seeing this, Ryan followed after her, wanting to convince her so
that he could take her home.
When they reached the entrance, Ryan thought Lora was about to hail a cab, so he suggested, "Let's go, I'll take you with my car-"
However, an expensive car pulled up in front of them and Jason Anderson stepped out of the car. He smiled when he saw Lora and approached her.
"I came as soon as I could... let me take you home," he offered and Lora smiled at him before taking his hand.
"Then I'll be troubling you, Jay. I left my car at the port," she replied.

Jason helped Lora into his car and helped her wear her seatbelt. The move looked intimate and Lora didn't avoid him... Ryan watched this scene and he felt like someone was clawing at his heart.
Jason closed Lora's door and walked around the car but before he got into the driver's seat, he looked at Ryan and said, "Thank you for taking care of Lora, Mr Kingsley. I'll treat you to dinner to thank you when I have the chance."
He got into the car and drove away, leaving Ryan seething as he glared at the car. Lora didn't even spare him another glance, neither did she say bye to him.
Ryan's blood boiled from anger, his heart burning with jealousy.
