Chapter 803: Were Hayden and Nathan Forced to Be a Couple?
Hayden tilted the woman's face toward him as he spoke, completely ignoring the curious glances from the onlookers. But the moment his sharp eyes landed on Kelly's persistent, haunting face, his suspicion dissolved instantly. He recoiled as though struck by lightning, quickly releasing Kelly's hand and even shaking it in the air, as if he had touched something filthy.
Kelly, wearing high heels, was already unsteady with her arm restrained. When he suddenly let go, her body pitched forward and she fell hard onto the marble floor of the shopping mall. The impact left her clutching her chest in pain, tears streaming down her face. Her pitiful appearance stirred the sympathy of the surrounding men.
"Hey, man, even if you're arguing with your girlfriend, you can't treat her like that. Have some respect!" one of them said indignantly.
Hayden jumped back like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. "Who the hell is her boyfriend?! You can eat whatever you want, but don't spout nonsense! I have absolutely nothing to do with this woman!" "How can you say that?"
Kelly, supported by another girl, stood up while holding her chest, her face filled with hurt. "My father wanted our families to unite through marriage. You're supposed to be my fiancé now! Even if you don't like me, you shouldn't say such things. How do you expect my family to hold their head up after this?"
A business alliance?
Hearing this, the onlookers quickly pieced things together.
"That's too much! You're handsome, sure, but how can you be so heartless?" one girl snapped on Kelly's behalf. "Even if it's a business marriage and you don't like her, you still shouldn't be so rude to a woman. If you've got the guts, go talk to your family and cancel the engagement!"
"What engagement?!" Hayden was on the verge of losing his mind. "My dad never agreed to her father's proposal. Engagement, my ass! Stop inflating your own importance. This is so annoying-I shouldn't have come here to shop in the first place!"
As he spoke, he grabbed Nathan and turned to leave.
But Kelly wasn't about to let him go so easily. She had finally managed to corner Hayden and hoped to use him as a stepping stone to get closer to Jared. If she let him leave now, who knew when she'd get another chance? Without thinking, she grabbed Hayden's arm. "Hayden, don't be like this. I-I know you don't like me, but I really like you. If I've caused you trouble, I'm sorry. Please don't ignore me."
Kelly's naturally soft and alluring features, combined with her delicate, trembling voice, struck a chord with many of the men present.
"Man, you're being ungrateful," someone chimed in. "This poor girl is so devoted to you, and you're still brushing her off?"
"These days, finding someone who genuinely likes you isn't easy," another added.
Hayden swept them all a cold glance. "Mind your own business. I don't need anyone's devotion. If you want to take her feelings, you're welcome to them. Just leave me out of it." Hayden rarely swore in public, but Kelly had truly pushed him to his limit.
Standing in a quiet corner, Nathan raised an eyebrow. He seemed amused as he pulled out his phone and typed something. Just as he looked up, he unexpectedly locked eyes with Kelly, who was glancing his way.
His eyelid twitched. He opened his mouth to speak, but Kelly beat him to it, her delicate voice ringing out again. She pointed a slender finger at him.
"Hayden, you're not rejecting me because of him, are you?!"
Hayden froze. "Are you out of your mind...?"
Nathan blinked. "What???"Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
Finally, Nathan understood why Hayden found Kelly so insufferable. Both were heiresses of the Bailey family, but how could Kelly and Ella Bailey be so different?
The crowd was stunned. Did they just hear that right? Was she implying what they thought she was implying?
"This is because of him, isn't it?! I've heard your father mention that you two are always together. Hayden, what's wrong with me? Why would you rather choose a cold, unfeeling man over me?!"
Hayden: I swear, I'm about to lose it and punch her...
"You already know there's nothing good about you, and yet you're still clinging to my boyfriend. Have some shame, will you?"
Just as Hayden was about to blurt out something that would dominate the gossip headlines and send fangirls into a frenzy, a confident female voice cut through the crowd.
The sound of high heels clicking against the floor accompanied the voice as a striking figure strode toward them.
Hayden's eyes lit up the moment he saw her. Without hesitation, he rushed forward, draping an arm over her rounded shoulder. "What are you doing here?"
Paula raised an eyebrow at the hand on her shoulder, her ears turning slightly red. "If I didn't come, my boyfriend would've been stolen by this shameless woman!"
"Wow, what kind of luck does this guy have? How does he have so many women fighting over him?"
In terms of looks, Paula's bright, elegant beauty easily outshone Kelly's more demure features.
In terms of temperament, Paula, as a future heir of the White family, exuded the confidence and poise of someone raised in an elite environment. Her natural charm and commanding presence made it clear to anyone with eyes who was superior.
Despite her youth, Paula carried herself with the authority of a seasoned leader. When her face turned cold, it was particularly intimidating.
Seeing these two rare beauties vying for Hayden's attention, some onlookers couldn't help but feel a twinge of envy.
Kelly, however, had never met Paula before. But judging by her aura alone, Kelly knew this woman wasn't someone to be trifled with. When she noticed Paula's youthful appearance, jealousy bubbled up within her. "Miss, Hayden and I are bound by our parents' arrangement. You shouldn't interfere," Kelly said through gritted teeth.
"An arrangement by your parents?" Paula scoffed, pulling out her phone. "Perfect. I happen to have Mr. Cohen's number right here. Let's call him and ask if the Cohen family has any intention of making you their 'future daughter-in-law.'" "No need!" Kelly's face turned pale, and the words came out in a panic.
Everyone in the Cohen family avoided her like the plague. If that call went through, she would only embarrass herself further.
Her face darkened as she gritted her teeth, noticing the shift in the crowd's demeanor. Without another word, she covered her face with her hands and bolted.
Hayden's eyebrows knitted together tightly, his thoughts racing.
Is she crazy?
Kelly... is she seriously okay in the head?
If she knew she was unwelcome, why did she even show up in the first place?!
