Chapter 44
Elena looked despondent as she muttered, “We’ll hear what George. has to say about the incident and prove I’m innocent. I’d like to know how he had come to blame me for Andrew’s injuries.”
Neither Athena nor Grace had expected such resolve on Elena’s part, but it didn’t matter. George would show up to give his side of the story soon enough..
A smirk tugged on Madelyn’s lips when she saw the fear on Elena’s
face.
Elena noticed Madelyn’s taunting gaze but disregarded it. She thought of ways to use George to her advantage. She couldn’t let Madelyn
take the shares from Athena.
But before George could arrive, Ryan got off the phone and entered the living room. He informed Athena respectfully, “Mrs. Miller Senior,
Mr. Hart is here.”
Elena glanced at Athena and Madelyn, believing they would leave only after hearing what George had to say. However, she blanched when Athena took Madelyn’s hand and said, “Come with me, Maddie. Let’s not waste our time on liars who refuse to admit their wrongdoing.”
Elena’s mind went blank. For all the schemes she had cooked up, she was at a complete loss right now. Under normal circumstances, shouldn’t Athena wait until George had given his side of the story before signing away her shares in the company?
If Athena transferred those shares to Madelyn, Easton’s plan would be ruined He would not honor the deal he made with Eleria after that.
Elena stepped forward instinctively and asked, “Grandma Athena, aren’t you going to wait for George?”
Athena ignored ‘her and tugged Madelyn to the study with a petulant air. Elena’s stomach tightened at the sight of this..
Presently, Josiah Hart entered the house with Easton in tow.Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
“Great–Grandma, I just heard that Mr. Rivera asked George to come over. Is there more to Andrew’s incident than we were led to believe?”
Easton asked.
Madelyn pinned him with a mocking gaze and saw the panic in his
eyes.
As for her, she couldn’t care less about owning Athena’s shares as long as they didn’t end up under Easton’s name. Still, she tugged on Athena’s hand and suggested, “Grandma, maybe we should wait until George has clarified matters before we have Mr. Hart draw up the paperwork.”
“I believe you,” Athena said. She had wanted to lead Madelyn straight into the study for fear that false allegations would hurt her.
Madelyn was well aware of this as she helped Athena to the couch. “I know, Grandma. But it seems others are intent on getting to the bottom of things.” After comforting Athena, she turned to Ryan. “Mr. Rivera?”
“Yes, Ms. Garcia?”
“Call the police. Once the truth comes out, those who are responsible for the incident ought to pay for their crimes,” Madelyn sneered as she looked at Elena.
She had wanted to wait until after Athena’s birthday celebration to settle tl score with Elena, but since Elena decided to show up to make trouble for her, she had to bring her plans forward.
“Yes, Ms. Garcia,” Ryan replied with a nod.

police involved after she nearly killed Andrew.
Athena and Grace were even more certain of Madelyn’s innocence after they heard her instructing Ryan to call the police.
The police showed up around the same time as George.
Elena’s confidence in George wavered when she saw how unfazed Madelyn was. She had only agreed to hear George’s side of the story to stall Athena from transferring her shares to Madelyn. She never expected Madelyn to get the cops involved.
“George, could you please tell the police what you told Mrs. Miller Senior the last time?” Grace asked, her expression grave as she sat on the armchair.
George was trembling at the moment, and his face was bloodless.
Sensing his fear, Elena grew even more uneasy. She stepped forward and urged, “Go on, George: Tell the truth.”
She sounded pleasant, implying that she would compensate George handsomely if he vouched for her.
Having expected this from Elena, Madelyn snorted. The trick might have worked in the past, but she doubted George would have the gall to accept Elena’s bribe now.
