Chapter 395
People, right? You really shouldn't start out wanting things that aren't yours. And look at me now-paying the price. Everett gently carried Selena to the bathroom, cleaned her up, tucked her in snugly, and laid her back in bed. Just as Selena's head drooped, about to drift off, the sharp ring of her cellphone shattered the quiet. It was late, who would be calling Everett at this hour? With a struggle, Selena cracked her eyes open and glanced at the nightstand, where the screen lit up with a name: Margot. Figures, right? Selena's lips curled into a wry smile as she fixed her gaze on Everett. He glanced at the phone, saw the name Margot, and didn't even flinch. Ignoring Selena, he picked up the phone and answered. He walked over to the big window, turning his back to her. Whatever was said on the other end, he gave a curt reply, "Got it, I'm heading over now." After hanging up, he turned around and caught Selena's mocking stare. A slight frown creased his brow, but it quickly vanished. Not saying a word, he walked straight into the dressing room, yanked off the towel wrapped around his waist, and started getting dressed. Listening to the sounds from inside, Selena thought, typical. Before their issues were out in the open, he at least had the courtesy to wait until she was asleep before sneaking out to see his mistress. Now, there's not a hint of shame, just more arrogance. Expecting them to feel even a pinch of guilt about cheating? Forget it! No wonder those wealthy wives at the parties always said expecting a billionaire to stay faithful is tougher than making a billion.
Selena took a few deep breaths, sat up, tightened her robe, got out of bed, and headed for the dressing room. Everett, now fully dressed, saw her standing there, her eyes still carrying traces of their recent intimacy, bare feet on the carpet, toes pale and perfectly rounded, utterly delicate.
The silver moonlight streamed in, wrapping around her, and for a split second, she looked like a moonlit fairy.
"Everett." Her tips parted, her voice husky and filled with allure. Everett's heart gave a little jolt, like she'd tossed a pebble into the pond of his heart, enough to make ripples. He
couldn't help but look her.
Was she jealous, trying to make him stay? Oddly, a flicker of hope flared up within him. He'd been waiting for her to give in, to go back to how things used to be. No one enjoys living in constant chaos, least of all the Bennetts during such a
tumultuous time.
Selena moved closer, step by step, until she was right in front of him. Her hand gently tugged at his sleeve, and she looked up at him. Everett glanced down at her hand, feeling the chaos inside him intensify.
If she asked him to stay... he might just consider it...
Selena softened her voice, dropping
the confrontational tone, speaking to him gently. Each word was clear: "She calls, and you're ready to leave in the middle of the night. I know she matters to you, but can't we part on good terms?" Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
