Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 458

After what felt like an eternity of tangled emotions, the moment Selena had been waiting for finally arrived. Even though it was what she wanted, her heart still throbbed with a dull ache at this moment. Between her and Margot, Everett chose Margot; between her and his "Hey, Mrs. Bennett, are you still with me?" Bradley's voice broke through her silence, gently calling her back to reality.

career, he chose his career. Selena felt a wave of sadness wash over her.

"Yeah, I'm here."

Regaining her composure, Selena replied, "I'm free today. I'll see you at the law firm later." After hanging up, she carefully tended to the remaining flowers, wiped her hands, and headed inside.

In the master bedroom, Selena sat at the vanity, taking a long look at her reflection. She was still beautiful, but her eyes now carried the weight of life's trials, a stark contrast to four years ago when she sat there as a blushing bride, her eyes sparkling with excitement and hope. She had thought it was the start of happiness, only to find it was the beginning of heartache. Thankfully, it was all finally wrapping up. All the love, bitterness, and folly would soon be behind her. Determined not to end things on a messy note, she picked up a comb, carefully brushing her hair before applying her makeup with precision.

That afternoon, she drove to the law firm. Bradley, looking just as he did over a year ago, still carried that polished air, a testament to his capabilities, always composed and collected. Selena settled into a sofa as Bradley's assistant brought over two cups of coffee. She took a sip, then asked, "Everett isn't coming?"

Bradley, sitting across from her, adjusted his glasses with a benign smile, "Mr. Everett has entrusted me to handle the divorce proceedings for him."

Selena was no stranger to this setup; it was the same drill as last time. Basically, the jerk was gearing up to throw all kinds of obstacles her way again. But this time, Selena's mindset had changed. A year ago, she was filled with resentment, eager to make him pay. Now, all she wanted was freedom.

Bradley offered a polite reminder, "Mrs. Bennett, if you'd like to hire your own lawyer, we can reschedule."

What a typical move from Everett's loyal lackey. Selena cut straight to the chase, "No need, let's get this over with."

"Alright."

Bradley nodded to his assistant, who placed a hefty stack of papers on the table and slid them over to her. "Mrs. Bennett, this is the initial draft of the divorce agreement per Mr. Everett's instructions."

Selena didn't even bother flipping through the nearly two-inch-thick document. She almost laughed, "This is a first draft? Are we drafting a whole dictionary by the time we're done?"

Bradley kept his professional smile, patiently letting her vent. Part of his job was dealing with emotional outbursts. He took it very seriously.

Suppressing the urge to call Everett and give him an earful, Selena rubbed her temples and said, "Just hit me with the highlights."

By the time she finished skimming through it, the sun would be setting.

Bradley began, "Alright, Mrs. Bennett, here are the main points."

"First, you initiated the divorce, citing infidelity on your part, having an affair and even eloping with another man, causing Mr. Everett great emotional distress. Therefore, the prenuptial agreement is void and you'll leave with nothing."

Selena's hands clenched tightly. She was unfaithful? She had an affair? And she caused him emotional distress? The audacity was staggering.

"Second, the shares and assets

gifted to you by Mr. Howard belong to the Bennett family, and you must return them unconditionally. If you try to transfer assets or sell shares to competitors, Mr. Everett will

pursue action against you."

"But," he added, "rest assured, any money Mr. Everett spent on you and your family during the marriage will be forgiven, and your uncle's embezzlement evidence will be destroyed."

A slap followed by a sweetener, classic Everett. Selena downed her coffee, suppressing her boiling emotions, "What else?"

"Third, and most importantly,"

Bradley shifted a bit, getting

"Since there's a child involved, you

must stay in Moon Bay until the baby is born. You need to report your whereabouts and can't just disappear, ensuring Mr. Everett's Visitation rights. Also, to protect the child's reputation, you can't get too close to other men or start dating."

"If you don't comply, he will enforce measures until the baby is here."

Bradley's voice was smooth and pleasant, but every word made Selena want to explode. Was this a divorce agreement or a one-sided punishment? It was a complete takeover of her finances and personal freedom! Bradley went on with more conditions, but Selena tuned out, sitting there with a cold, detached expression.

By evening, Selena finally drove away from the law firm.

Bennett Corporation, in the CEO's office, Alex was briefing Everett on various company projects. Everett, lounging back in his leather chair, appeared somewhat distracted, his dark eyes downcast.

It wasn't until his phone rang on the desk, displaying Bradley's name, that Everett gave a nod to Alex to leave. Once she exited, he picked up the phone and moved to the window, watching the sunset disappear behind the clouds. His lips barely moved, his voice rough, "Does she still want to leave?"
