Chapter 2 Sad
Chapter 2 Sad
Josef stared at her. His beautiful and regal face held an expression of ruthlessness. Being the subject of his gaze, Myra felt like he was an assassin thinking of ways to kill her.
"If I say that I didn't do it, will you believe me? Do you even know me at all? Yes, I came to your study to get your documents, I didn't sell that plan to your competitors!"
"Why would I believe you when everything's right there?" He pointed at the screen behind them, looming over her dangerously. "My own wife sold the plan that I've worked for day and night to my own competitors. Do you even know how serious the consequences will be? I won't just lose money! All of my subsidiary companies would be implicated in this.
We could all be in deep trouble because of you! And you have the audacity to say you didn't do it? I've trusted you so much, and you threw that into the dirt. What have I ever done to you? Have I wronged you in some way? Are you short on money? If yes, then the least you can do is tell me! Is your pocket money not enough?" he snapped, frustrated at her.
"Look, I don't know what happened back there for you to think so lowly of me, but I didn't sell your documents! There was a reason why I took those documents, okay? Yvonne-" The moment she mentioned the woman's name, he raised his hand to stop her.
"Shut it! You're already caught in the act, and you chose to drag her into this mess? It seems that I underestimated you," Josef snarled.
"I'm your wife! You want to side with your precious Yvonne over your own wife? You bastard!" Myra spat.
"Get out!" he roared. He didn't even bother to look at her as he whirled over to the window pane. The glass reflected his stricken face.
Myra felt desperate. 'What's the use of staying here? Even in Josef's heart, it seems that I'm not as important as his friends.'
Although they lived under the same room, it felt as if they had gotten even more distant from one another.
Josef frowned. 'What happened to the young and innocent woman I have married? How could she do this?' In the beginning, he didn't believe that she would be capable of doing this. But Yvonne was also not the type of woman who would speak ill of others so casually. However, when the surveillance video was presented to him, it was hard for him not to believe it. 'Myra isn't the woman she used to be.
Has she always been like this?' The more Josef thought about it, the more distraught he came. He just couldn't believe that she would be capable of lying to him.
Back then, he married her because she was innocent and lovely. In a sea of promiscuous and shameless women, he couldn't help but fall for her. Now that he saw her for her true colors, could she even guarantee that she would never do it again?
People had always said that family was the hardest to guard against. Josef shook his head.
Myra returned to her bedroom.
Although she didn't have to see or hear the man's ruthless words, she still couldn't help but feel depressed after what had happened. 'What were you expecting? That's just reality,' she scolded herself. Marriage didn't bring rainbows and butterflies. Instead, it brought her a box of problems that she couldn't find it in herself to deal with.
Things had changed between them, and she knew it. She just couldn't believe that he'd be deceived by that woman.
'He never believed you. Except for being his wife, what else do you have?
It's clear that you're no match for Yvonne. You're not as beautiful as her, as skillful as her, or even as manipulative as her! You're already doomed to lose,' she thought bitterly.
Any man would choose a woman like Yvonne, even Josef. After seeing what had happened, she knew what she was worth to him. She knew what he thought of her. Myra clenched her fists. Not only did that bitch ruin her credibility, but she also ruined her name.
Now, everyone thought Myra was a thief! What else could she say?
'Even Josef couldn't stand by my side. Is my love for him worth nothing at all?'
People had always said that only time would reveal one's greatest desires. It also meant that through time they could tell if they would last forever or break like any other casual lovers.
It seemed that Josef had already chosen his stand. 'If he really loved me, he wouldn't humiliate me like this,' Myra thought.
'In fact, if I were Josef, I would love my wife unconditionally no matter what the cost. If he couldn't even wait to hear my explanation, what kind of love is that?'
Josef stayed in the study the entire night, smoking one cigarette after another. Back when he married Myra, none of his friends thought highly of it. In fact, they were incredibly disapproving. His parents said nothing of it, so they went ahead.
'Was I wrong? Was she just pretending this whole time? Have I been tricked? Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
If Yvonne didn't know any of this, what else would become of me?' He wrapped his fingers around the glass in front of him, and he clenched his jaw. 'Do you know what you've done to me, Myra? Have you
really loved me at all? Or was all of this just a trick to get my money?' No matter how many times Myra twisted and turned on her bed, she couldn't fall asleep.
She felt restless.
Back when she married Josef, her friends had been so envious of her. In fact, they didn't even think she deserved it. He was rich, handsome, and accomplished.
There was just a huge gap between them. Myra was average, looking at best. In fact, she would never match up to the other women swooning over her husband. Her family wasn't even rich. In fact, she was just any other girl on the streets.
They were from two different worlds,
yet they didn't expect to fall in love with each other. Now, with all these happening in less than half a year they had been married, Myra began to have second thoughts on how she felt.
Did she make the right decision?
The man who promised to love her all his life didn't even trust her enough to get her to explain her side of the story. Was that the happy ending others had swooned over?
Myra finally fell asleep. However, when she woke up, her eyes were glassy and filled with unsolved grievance.
Her own husband couldn't even believe her. She was pathetic!
If their relationship back then was comparable to heaven, then this was comparable to hell.
Staring at the cold empty space beside her, it seemed that Josef would rather stay in the study than sleep in the same room with her.
Myra snorted. What did she expect?
After what had happened last night, she would be surprised if he would even look at her. She clenched her fists. Knock! Knock! Knock! "Good morning, Mr. Josef and Mrs. Myra! It's time for breakfast," Mrs. Liu called. She would usually go upstairs to wake them up at this time of the day.
Because of Myra's stomachache, Josef would accompany her to eat every morning before going to work.
"Okay." Myra stood up and got ready. After a few minutes, she changed into a casual dress and went downstairs to have breakfast.
No matter what happened, she couldn't mistreat her own stomach. The moment she opened the door, she could see Josef standing right in front of her. He looked as if he wanted to come in. The tension between them deepened further.
There were two dark circles underneath his eyes. Did he even sleep? Upon looking at his cold gaze, Myra didn't even bother to ask.
'No matter how haggard he looks, he's still handsome. Even if I dressed up, I could never match him.'
In fact, his charisma and beauty was one of the reasons why she had fallen for him. Every time she walked with him, everyone would glance his way. Unfortunately, this meant that she was usually overlooked. No one would ever care for his average-looking wife.
Myra flinched at the thought.
In fact, when she decided to marry him, it was obvious that she was already looking for trouble, wasn't she? It wasn't as if she deserved this man in the first place.
Without another thought, she headed to the dining table. She might as well eat something. After a while, Josef came out of the bedroom, fully dressed for work.
He was still as handsome as ever.
Although the man didn't care too much for his skin, his skin was even better than any woman's. Actually, Myra often wondered if he was a woman. It was obvious why he had attracted a lot of adoring gazes wherever he went.
Every time she looked at him, she felt as if she was looking at a piece of art. He looked so perfect that she often wondered why he was with her.
Mrs. Liu placed his plate on the table. "Mr. Josef, good morning. Your breakfast is here."
"I won't be eating." After saying that, he walked out of the house. He didn't even look at Myra.
Noticing the tension in the room, Mrs. Liu said nothing.
Myra couldn't help but recall what Josef had said to her back then. "I would have breakfast with you every single day, no matter how tired or busy I am. I would never let my wife eat on her own."
His promise echoed in her ears. It seemed that it was all a lie. Myra gripped her fork. Her faith in love was slowly slipping away.
On the way to the company, Josef crossed his arms over his chest.
Although he was handsome, his gloomy face made him even more intimidating. Noticing this, his driver didn't dare say anything.
'I'd better not provoke him today,' he thought. At this point, the driver just wanted to get to the office as fast as possible.
He kept his mouth shut and stepped on the gas.
After all, workers always get the brunt of their bosses' anger. But the treatment and salary here was far better than anywhere else. Given this, he had no choice but to swallow all his hardships.
