Chapter 1472
Ted wasn't sure what Janine was thinking. From his perspective, it seemed she didn't completely trust him, or rather, she seemed afraid of depending on him.
However, he wasn't in a hurry. Over time, she would gradually learn to trust him.
Watching the two of them playfully show off their affection toward each other, Skylar and Steven exchanged quiet words.
"Now we can be at ease. Mr. Read really does love Mom," Skylar said softly.
"Yeah, I was a bit worried before, but now I can relax," Steven replied. He made a mental note to talk to Charles and Harvey later, reminding them not to voice any opposition to Janine's relationship.novelbin
Mona, sitting next to Steven, whispered, "Darling, Mr. Read does spoil Mom."
That gave her an idea. She thought about adding a subplot in her new novel where the parents of the male and female leads had their own touching love story.
Sometimes, she even imagined what it would be like when she and Steven grew old. She wondered if Steven would still love her the way he did now. But that thought was just an occasional one. Most of the time, she was confident that Steven would continue to love her as long as they both put effort into their relationship and worked together to nurture their home.
She believed that they would continue to love each other as they grew older.

An hour later, Steven and Mona left first, and then Ted drove Janine home. Skylar drove back by herself.
Not far from Rosetone Residence, she came across a car accident at an intersection.
Two cars had collided, and the scene looked quite scary. Pieces of the vehicles were scattered everywhere.
Ambulances had arrived, and the police were managing the scene. The traffic on that road was temporarily blocked. Skylar glanced at the traffic ahead and behind her and decided to take a different road.
Just as she was about to make a turn, a man on a bicycle suddenly blocked her way.
Skylar quickly rolled down the window and looked at the man. She furrowed her brow when she saw who it was.
She lamented at the coincidence.
"Well, it's really you! I was riding my bike when I saw you parked here. At first, I thought I might have mistaken it, but it turns out it is you. What a coincidence, Ms. Sullivan," Stephen said. He looked at Skylar, pretending to be amazed.
Skylar remained expressionless. "It is indeed a coincidence."
The young man appeared sunny and handsome, but when he looked at her, there was a glint of calculation in his eyes.

"If I told Simona about this, she'd be just as surprised. Jipsburg is such a big city, and yet here we are, running into each other twice in the past couple of days. Ms. Sullivan, do you have some time? I just thought of something I'd like to ask your opinion on."

Stephen could sense Skylar's impatience with him. He had been acting well; based on his experience, his act would have easily made any woman fall for him.
But for some reason, Skylar seemed unaffected. It almost felt as if she could see right through him. That feeling made him uneasy.
It was a feeling of being out of control.
Skylar spoke curtly, "Sorry, I have things to do. Please, move aside."
It was a blatant rejection.
To him, Skylar was being disrespectful. It differed from what Simona always said about Skylar being a good person.
He didn't see it. On the contrary, Skylar seemed aloof, looking down on him and his background as a poor student. A woman like her...
