Chapter 30 Friends should help each other, right?
The young Brandon was absorbed by the information on his computer.
"Daddy..."
Bonny was talking in her sleep. Brandon looked up from behind the computer. His sister was kicking
her quilt off. She seemed to be eating something delicious in her dream.
Brandon's eyes softened. He closed the computer and got on his feet.
When Pearl opened the door, she saw Brandon sitting by the bed to cover his sister with her quilt.
Hearing the sound of the door, Brandon turned his head and looked at the door. "Mom."
Pearl came in and sat down beside him. "Brandon, I'm sorry you have to take care of Bonny these
days. I was making preparations for your new school. I'm sure things will get better after the summer
vacation."
Brandon also sat down cross-legged. He asked with a calm expression, "Mom, are you sure? Won't
Bonny make more trouble at school?"
Thinking of the troubles Bonny made abroad, Pearl found that she couldn't smile anymore. She
said resignedly, "Let's not think that first. You'll have to go to school anyway."
She coughed to cover her awkwardness and quickly changed the subject. "Well, you haven't told me
what happened at the party today."
Why would Brandon suddenly show up with Richard and call him 'daddy'?
The entire afternoon felt like ages to Pearl. If it happened to another woman with a weaker mind, she
would have broken down.
"I heard Aunt's assistant calling someone, and felt like something must was wrong."
Just as Pearl went out to attend the party, Evelina went to her house to pick up the two kids. Because
she had the photo of Pearl and looked a lot like Pearl, Brandon didn't think too much and went with
them.
At the hotel, Evelina's assistant took the kids to the playroom. Bonny was naughty and sneaked out of
the room without the assistant's notice. While looking for her, Brandon overheard the phone call
inadvertently.
Before Brandon said this, Pearl knew already what Evelina's intentions were. She wanted to humiliate
Pearl in front of their relatives and friends. Evelina wanted to embarrass her father and destroy the her
relationship between her father.
But how did this have anything to do with Richard?
Pearl looked at her son. She asked, "Then how did you end up with...Richard?"
Brandon crossed his legs and his hands first. Then he continued saying composedly, "When I spotted
Bonny, she had already ran to you. There was no use chasing after her then."
Coincidentally, it was at the same time that Richard just walked into the banquet hall.
"That's why I asked him help me."
A simple sentence explained the whole thing.
Pearl frowned, waiting for more information, but he didn't say anything else. "Is that all?"
"Yes."
"You asked him for help, and he just agreed?"
"Yes."
Sometimes Brandon's short replies could drive her crazy. He would always answered a question with
several words. If he could, he would just reply with a word.
"But why did you call him... father?"
"About that." Brandon suddenly looked at her. "Mom, is he our Dad?"
Pearl was taken aback. She immediately denied it, "Of course not. He and I... just old classmates."
She denied it so quick but she didn't dare to look at Brandon. She felt very guilty.
"Then everything is fine." Brandon let go of her arm. He leaned lazily against his sister's bed, "Mom,
friends should help each other, right?"
Even Brandon was young, he was very good at manipulating the flow of the conversation. Somehow,
he had succeeded directing it back to Pearl.
Looking at the complicated look on her son's face, which bore so much resemblance to the man who
just left a few minutes ago, Pearl's heart pounded uneasily. "Yes, you're right."
She was the one who ask questions first, but now it felt like the spotlight was on her.
"Just forget it." Pearl thought to herself. "Since everything is over now. The children would not have
anything to do with Richard in the future. So there's no difference if they know the truth."
Thinking of this, she got up with the support of the bed. "I'm leaving. Have a good rest with your sister."
"Alright."
Closing the door behind her, Pearl went back to the living room. She sat down, feeling a little tired.
Over the past seven years, she had raised the children alone while working and studying. On average,
she could only sleep for two hours a day, yet she wasn't tired at that time.
But today, after spending a half afternoon with Richard, she seemed to have exhausted all of her
energy.
Beside her, her phone started vibrating.
She dug out the phone from under the pillows, then checked the screen languidly. When she saw the
ID, her eyes lit up and she quickly pressed the answer button.
"Mr. Watson."
"Hi, Pearl." Mr. Watson was gentle as always. "How are you these days at home?"
"I am fine. And I was waiting for your call. So is it okay for me to go back to work now?"
She had been staying at home for a while. And she wasn't used to having so much free time.
Moreover, her children were very independent who didn't need much of her care. In fact, on the
contrary, she was the one who got help from them sometimes .
"That still needs some time. You know how bad the influences were, and there are still a lot of rumors
going around in the hospital."
Hearing that, Pearl's eyes dimmed a little. Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
"However, there is a new job here. It doesn't need you to stay at the office, so maybe you can have a
try."
"What is it?"
"Well. In order to help patients to learn more about medicine through medical dramas, a TV series
contacted our hospital for an consultant to direct all the medical facts in it. Are you willing to join them?"
"A consultant?"
"Yes. You're a professional doctor, and you may dislike doing such trivial things, so if you don't want
to..."
"Yes, I will join them." Pearl agreed. "Sir, if people could learn more about medicine through this
medical drama, I am willing to join them. When I was a student, I already know that the scalpel isn't the
only tol to save a patient."
The first class she took in the medical school was from her graduate and undergraduate teacher. The
whole lesson was discussing why you chose to be a doctor. Most of the students said they wanted to
save lives, but none of them knew clearly how to save a life, or whose life need to be saved, even after
they graduated.
It was Pearl's dream to be a good doctor to cure diseases and save lives, which was beyond doubt.
On the other side of the phone, Mr. Watson was obviously relieved. His said with laugh, "Pearl, I've
never met someone as straightforward and upright as you. I believe it was a misunderstanding before."
"Thank you for your trust. Mr. Watson. Then when can I start working?"
"Next Monday."
"I'll do my best."
