Rebirth of the Wife in Despair

Chapter 22

Chapter 22

Chapter 22 Eileen Doesn’t Know Who Jasper Is Yet

Eileen calmed herself down, and sat down at the dining table.

Will asked, surprisingly concerned. “Ms. Elsie says you’ve been doing pretty well in school lately. What would you like as a reward?”

He had always been nothing but strict to her, and hardly ever talked at the dining table.

Elsie had obviously put him in a pretty good mood.

Eileen took the chance to say, “T’d like to take a trip to Seatown with my friends after my finals. Can I do that, Dad?”

“Sure you can. Have a driver go with you, it’s not safe for you to be on your own out there.”

Eileen did not seem too happy at this, merely smiling. “Thanks, Dad.”

Just then, Elsie said, “Are you going to Seatown for the beach? The view there is stunning, you should go after your finals and take a break.”

Eileen said half-heartedly, “Yeah, I haven’t been out in ages.” This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.

A servant poured juice into Elsie’s cup, “Have you decided what school you’d like to go to? I’m sure you can get into Artemis if you work hard now, with the results you’ve been getting.”

Artemis University was a pretty decent school, and Sharon would be able to get in with her decent art subject results.

Eric knew what Eileen’s results were like, and had seen the papers she was doing in the hospital as well. She could even get into Hulbury University if she wanted to.

Hulbury University was the best university in the country.

Eileen chewed for a while, before saying, “I haven’t decided yet. We’ll see!”

“That’s fine too. I can make you a study plan once you’ve made your decision.” Elsie appeared to be nothing but concerned for Eileen, which Eileen had fallen for in her past life.

She was not going to stay in Hulbury, that was for sure.

She was fine with going to any regular university abroad.

Eileen was a little distracted all throughout eating.

Eric tried to find a way to talk to her several times, only for her to answer half-heartedly with short

answers.

Will seemed completely entranced by Elsie, and Eric was focused on Vera….

Halfway through her meal, Eileen left the table.

It didn’t matter if Elsie was going to marry into the Swan household. None of that would be Eileen’s business anymore.

She walked to the balcony, gazing at the tightly-shut windows across her.

She looked at the time. It was almost noon.

Was he still asleep?

Just as Eileen was wondering what he was up to, she spotted a black car stopped in front of the house. next to hers.

She looked over curiously as the car stopped, and a driver emerged. He opened the door, and helped a young man in a black shirt onto a wheelchair.

Was that Jasper Smith?

Eileen could only see Jasper’s back from here. The bodyguards that followed behind him look a little like gang members.

What did this man’s family do?

Eileen did not ask, and had a vague idea from hearing his argument with that woman in the past.

Jasper had lost the ability to walk because of his family, and Eileen never brought his family up because

of that.

Before she could get a good look at him, Jasper had entered the house.

A while later, Eric knocked on the door.

Will wanted to have a talk with her.

The two of them entered Will’s study, and Eric closed the door. The tension in the room grew.

Will was currently praying at his altar. “Did you make a new friend lately?”

The sudden question made Eileen nervous, and her pulse began to race.

“Y… Yes! Dad, did I do something wrong?”

Will sat down at the study table slowly, Eric next to him. “Eileen, does talking to me make you

nervous?”

Eileen looked down, pondering on what she should say. “No… you’re just really strict, and I’m afraid of geuing into trouble with you.”

These were words that Will had never heard before. He looked his daughter up and down, feeling like some things had changed.

She had toned down a lot from her previous brashness.

“When did you befriend the Smiths?”

Eileen only had one friend with the surname Smith. It couldn’t be anyone else.

There was no way Will could stand and watch Eileen get hurt.

The question seemed to explain one thing…

Could… Jasper be a part of this?

That was the only logical explanation Eileen had.

Will would never talk to her alone like this otherwise.

She knew that she could not hide from Will either, and he would find out eventually.

Eileen said truthfully, “I just got to know him a few days ago. He lives next door.”

“Oh?”

The Smiths lived here too?

Eileen continued to say, “His name is Jasper Smith. He’s actually a pretty nice

guy, Dad.”

Will got to his feet, patting Eileen on the shoulder. “I’m just worried for you. After all, there are all these people who have it out for our family. I just don’t want you to go down the wrong path.”

“I know, Dad. I’ll be wary.”

“Invite that friend of yours over to eat with us if you have the time.”

Will seemed to be hinting at something. Eileen nodded anyways, saying, “Got it, Dad.”

“You can go back to your room now.”

“Okay, Dad.”

Eileen left the study, closing the door behind her.

“How do you feel about that?”

Eric said, “I don’t think Eileen knows who Jasper Smith really is yet.”

“His family’s done a good job at keeping his identity a secret. I heard, however, that Jasper broke both his legs in an accident a few years ago. It’s highly possible that Elm might replace Jasper as the person to take on the Smith family.”

Will nodded. “That’s a pretty good take. Many women are in charge these days, anyway. It’s a pity women can’t really hold their ground in the industry

“He might be from the Smiths, but he’s still disabled. A useless pawn, destined to be thrown to the side.” Will asked, “I heard the Friedmans are raising a new person to take on the business?”

Eric nodded. “Yep. This person’s apparently Jasper’s sister for a different father. The guy probably married richer than him, but this daughter of his is too playful to do anything.”
