Chapter 420
Unwrapping the thick velvet cloth, Nathalie found herself staring at classic parchment paper, covered in signatures. There was Nathan's, swirling across the page in a flourish like dragons dancing. Alongside were the neat, structured letters from his earlier days. In one corner, she spotted a few awkwardly scrawled letters: Nathan. The handwriting was unmistakably juvenile. Though the letters were tidy, they lacked the confident grip of an adult, giving them a soft, tender feel.
This handwriting was so familiar to Nathalie. It looked so much like hers.
Tears slipped down her cheeks. "Nathan, it really is you."
This was the handwriting she had taught Nathan. She was certain now. Nathan was her little brother.
Gently, she caressed the parchment that held the weight of years, turning the pages slowly. On the first page, bold words caught her eye, "Parting is just a prelude to a better reunion."
On the second page, she recognized the handwriting, a child's letter full of innocence:
"I've come home. All your wishes for me have come true here. I have a warm, big bed, plenty to eat, and cozy clothes. But none of it makes me happy. I wish I could share it all with you."
The third page.
"I met my father and the witch who left me among strangers. They held my hand with 'kindness', tears streaming as they confessed. They seemed sincere, but I didn't believe them. You taught me: people's hearts are unpredictable. You also taught me: it's easier to change the landscape than to change one's nature."
The fourth page.
"They sent me to the best school, but I never fit in with my classmates. Every time they looked at me like I was a monster, I wanted to run. But, you said: follow your own path and let others talk." The fifth page.
"Exam results are out, and I topped the class Teachers and classmates now see me differently, whispering about me being a genius. My
grandfather even asked to meet me.
en
"He acted like he loved me, but I knew: giving love when things are good isn't the same as supporting someone through tough times.
"Grandfather's love was because I was useful. It's not like your love, so simple and pure."
The sixth page.
"I secretly went back to Rainbow
Bridge to find you. But I stnovelbin
everywhere we'd been and
find you. I felt so anxious, please be safe and sound.
Nathalie read up to here, glanced at the date Nathan wrote this letter, and tears flowed again.
That was the day she met Cameron.
It was also the beginning of her life's darkest chapter.
No wonder Nathan felt anxious-because from then on, they each took paths that led to nowhere. In their past lives, they only reunited at the very end. Hopefully, in this life, destiny would be kinder to him.
The seventh page.
It seemed a long time had passed since the last entry. The handwriting had become sharper, hinting at the maturity of a growing child. The entry read:
"I had a terrifying dream. In it, a
