Chapter 1244

Caleb heard the ringtone for the incoming call and looked at Skylar. He was about to ask why she wasn’t answering when he caught a glimpse of the name on the incoming video call.

Caleb wondered what was wrong with Ned.

Skylar answered the video call, and Ned’s face appeared on the screen. Judging by the background, he seemed to be in a hotel.

“Mr. Sowle, what can I do for you?” Skylar asked directly.

Seeing that Skylar was in a car, Ned asked, “Are you driving?”

“No, my friend is driving,” Skylar replied, glancing at Caleb.

Caleb winked at Skylar, full of questions. When did these two add each other’s number?

Just a few days ago at the charity gala, Ned had seemed distant and unfamiliar toward Skylar. But now, in this video call, his attitude was clearly more attentive, even asking if she was

driving.

As a man, Caleb sensed a bit of danger. This Ned definitely had some sort of intentions toward

Ned then said, “The headache–relief massage technique you sent me was very effective. Thank

you.”

Skylar smiled and said, “You’re welcome. I’m glad it helped.”

So, the reason he called was just to thank her. For her, it was just a small favor.

“If you have time, let’s have a meal together. How about lunch tomorrow?” Ned got straight to the point about why he had called.

Skylar was surprised. “There’s no need for that, Mr. Sowle. I have a flight to catch tomorrow.”

Ned was briefly taken aback before nodding. “Alright then.”

“Okay then, goodbye, Mr. Sowle.” As Skylar looked at Ned’s face, which resembled Joe’s, memories of her time with Joe filled her mind, making her eager to head back to Murida as soon as possible.

Ned nodded and said goodbye.

He waited for Skylar to end the video call. Once her image disappeared from the screen, he frowned, feeling a dull pain in his head.

In the dreams he had been having up until last night; the woman’s face had always been blurry. But last night, her face suddenly became clear. It was Skylar. Her features matched hers

exactly, down to every contour,

He guessed that this might mean he had started developing feelings for Skylar. He had never felt a desire to get close to a woman before, Skylar was the first.

Just then, a knock on the door interrupted his thoughts.

“Ned.”

Ned put his thoughts aside and went to open the door.

Rosa stood there, smiling at him. “A college classmate of mine reached out. She’s in the city for business, and we’ve arranged to meet up, so I’m heading out now.”

Ned had work today. The initial phase of opening the branch company kept him very busy.

For the past few days, Rosa had tried to stay close to Ned, partly to assert her position to

others and partly to prevent Ned and Skylar from meeting alone. Skylar made her feel a deep sense of unease.

She wasn’t really meeting a college classmate today but a private investigator. Some things were better discussed in person.

Ned nodded and said, “Go ahead. Call me if you need anything.”

“Make sure to take care of yourself while you’re busy. If your head hurts, take a break,” Rosa reminded him, concerned that he might not look after himself properly.

Ned just nodded.
