Chapter 42. Here Comes the B*tch

Briana POV

I walked as fast as I could to seek refuge at the hotel’s restroom.

Noah has changed.

On the three occasions he and I interacted, I saw changes that made me pause to think because it did not add up.

Where was the angry Noah who accused me five years ago of killing his parents?

I splashed cold water on my face to jolt me back to my senses.

“It was an act, right Marcus?” I asked my brother when I saw him at the elevator.

I was going to the penthouse to check on the children when Marcus caught up

me

Marcus shook his head but did not reply until we stepped foot at the private elevator

we maintained for the family.

The elevator afforded us privacy. That was how paranoid my brothers were. They did not want anyone accidentally eavesdropping on our conversations to protect our privacy.

“He seemed pretty confused and shaken. I can see he genuinely loved the triplets. and wanted to be a part of their lives.” My brother reported while we ascended.

I snorted.

“I have not begun with my revenge yet, and Noah was already killing it.” I thought about my years of training.

How I juggled my time from graduate school to working my ass off at Ford’s and becoming a mother to my children?

“All goes down the drain.” I shook my head.

“Well, not exactly. You have improved a lot. From one skilled businesswoman, you have emerged spectacularly. You have become the best version of yourself, Briana.”

One of my four brothers, Marcus, was the most protective. He was also the most reasonable when it came to my personal affairs.

“I

Marcus nodded, and my breath hitched, I did not know what to say

He wanted the kids to know him. He longs to fill in the role of their father

Marcus lifted his hand to ruffle my carefully styled hair, but I dodged, and he missed. Instead, he patted my shoulder.

“Don’t worry, sis. I promise we won’t let him off the hook that easily.”

We reached our floor and walked the short distance to the penthouse.

Marcus pressed his palms on the scanner and introduced himself. The sensor cleared him and opened the lock

We got in, and my heart melted sesing my children lined up on the couch. They were sitting together, with their heads down, hands on their lap.

They looked guilty and deeply chastened that all I wanted to do was to comfort them.

“You shouldn’t attack people, Riley, Mason, and Brixx.

I recalled having this conversation with them last time.

“He is our enemy!” They said in chorus, chins jutting forward in rebellion.

I shook my head, feeling the onset of a massive headache while my four brothers watched.

“He is not your enemy. Why are you angry at him?”

I sighed.

How these kids picked up on the initial animosity between their father, and me beat

“Adults sometimes argue when they see things differently. It does not mean they are enemies. You can disagree and be friends.”

I made eye contact with Riley.

Sometimes, you disagree with each other and have different opinions, but it does not mean you are brothers anymore.”

They bowed their heads down and nodded.

“Next time you meet Noah, apologize, okay?”

Nod again.

I sighed and spread my arms wide. The children immediately jumped in my arms.

“Sorry, mommy.” The chorus.

Warmth filled my heart as I cradled the three of them to my chest.

Right now, their frames fit my arms, but not in a few years. They will be grown by then, and my arms will be small to accommodate their bodies.

But their father can. A tiny voice in my head says.

Maybe I’ll introduce Noah and let them get to know each other first.

Tentative steps.

I released them and saw Mason yaw

yawn.

“We have to go back. Jenna’s the only one holding the fort for us.” I told my brothers.

Charles, Flint, and Marcus nodded, but Rowan asked to stay behind with the triplets

“I’ll make sure they sleep.” He promised when I squinted my eyes at him.

Rowan spoils the children so much.

He met my pace innocently, and I gave in reluctantly.

“Okay. That’s it. Let’s go.”

I canned my hands to break our little party and walked to the door.

Rowan was already guiding the triplets to our bedroom.

We let the penthouse to join the party.

Noah did not try to approach me again, but I could feel his gaze following me; making me unsettled.

When I could not bear it anymore. I went to the restroom for a timeout.

I just took deep breaths to regulate the erratic beating of my heart.

When I felt that it was tempered enough, I decided to walk out, but the door opened from the outside just as I was to touch the knob.

I stepped back to allow the incomer in and was surprised to come face to face with Noah’s fancée, and she looked downright angry. Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
