Adrian looked away and ignored Farrah. He left the room without saying anything. He didn’t tell her where he was going, either. He just left the apartment.
Farrah got out of bed, figuring that he’d gone to work. After all, he had to work hard to pay the bills and raise a family if she were to get pregnant. It was a heavier burden than what he was used to.
Farrah had a date with Riley today–they were going to help out at Fairytale Cottage together. She was about to leave the apartment when her phone rang. It was a call from an unknown number.
When she answered, the person on the other end of the line asked, “Am I speaking to Farrah Tate?”
“Yes, this is her.”
“Hi, I’m calling from Prestige Group’s design department. Congratulations on getting hired. I’ve already sent you the company’s address and the floor our department is on. Could you come over to complete the necessary procedures now? By the way, I’m Marie Brown.”
Farrah was dumbfounded. She’d submitted her résumés to several companies about a month ago and had lost hope after the month–long radio silence. To think she’d receive a response after so long, and from Prestige Group, too! She couldn’t believe her ears!
“Farrah? Hello? Are you listening?” Marie asked.
“Yes, I am! Thank you so much, Ms. Brown!” Farrah was overjoyed.
-You may
not have any design experience, but we’ve looked at the drafts you submitted. There’s something special about them.”
“Thank you for your vote of confidence, Ms. Brown. I’ll be right there!”
After hanging up, Farrah rummaged through her suitcase, finding a sunshine yellow dress and changing into it. It was the most expensive item in her wardrobe–she’d bought it on a trip to Censa last year for a thousand dollars.
She only called Riley after getting into the cab. She told the latter she wouldn’t be heading to Fairytale Cottage because Prestige Group had hired her and that she had to head over there.
“Prestige Group? That’s amazing, Fay! This is such good luck!” Riley was surprised and delighted to hear his. “Prestige Group is one of Ronson City’s biggest companies; half of the city’s economy depends on it.
I heard the benefits are great, and it’s a company countless people dream of joining.”
“I feel like I’m dreaming, too.” To Farrah, being able to join Prestige Group was good enough. She would still be overjoyed even if the pay were a little lower.
She arrived and got out at the entrance. She saw two rows of suited employees standing outside the glass doors. They were tall and handsome and had evidently gone through rigorous training. They looked like they were waiting to welcome someone important
As she approached, she felt the atmosphere was out of the ordinary. It was so tense and serious that it was smothering. She glanced inside the building through the glass doors and saw many people standing there, too.
It seemed the managerial staff of each department was in attendance–they were all dressed formally and looked to be on the older side. Their lanyards hung from their necks, and they all looked spirited, seemingly afraid of coming across as half–hearted.
Farrah had only seen such grand scenes in TV shows before. There was something solemn about it. She

mustered the courage to slip past the guards and into the building. Then, she found that she didn’t fit in at all–she was the only spot of brightness amidst an ocean of dark colors.
“Which department are you from? What are you doing here?” Natasha Gray, the director of the design department, wore a black suit and stilettos. She tottered over to Farrah and snapped, “Didn’t your superior tell you what’s going on right now?”
Farrah looked at Natasha’s staff badge and said earnestly, “I’m sorry, Ms. Gray. I’m Farrah Tate, a new designer, I received Ms. Brown’s call this morning and came over-”
Natasha’s expression shifted, and she cut Farrah off. “You’re asking for trouble! Are you blind? Can’t you see what’s going on?”
Farrah was stunned by the reprimand. She had no idea what she’d done wrong. Fortunately, Natasha’s phone rang just then. She rolled her eyes at Farrah before answering the call. “Yes? Okay, got it. I understand.”
rrive, so don’t
After hanging up, she gave Farrah an icy look and said urgently, “The new CEO is about to arrive, take any of the elevators. Hurry up and find a place to hide!”
“Yes, ma’am.” Farrah had yet to make sense of the situation. She hid among the crowd and wondered what Natasha had meant by “new CEO“.
She backed away and blended in with the crowd. Then, she listened to the people whispering around her.
“Why’s he reporting earlier? Didn’t the higher–ups say he was only coming next month?”
“I heard the new CEO is young–only 23. His details indicate that he graduated from the world’s top college at 20 with a double degree. He’s renowned for being a genius in business.
