The Hunt
Mercedes’ POV
When I woke up the following day, I noticed that Clarita had not been back from her late night escapade. I take a bath, change into a pair of ripped jeans and a shirt and step out of the apartment. Today I have to speak to Saphira, I want to get things done asap and take her to Midnight Moon. I long to see Jace smile happily again, I hate the pain I saw in his eyes that night.
When I walk toward the elevator, I see that one of the doors of an apartment is not closed correctly. When I want to walk past it, I hear moaning sounds and slaps of bodies against each other. I try to move on quickly, I have a suspicion about what goes on behind those doors. But then I recognize Clarita’s husky voice, urgently begging with all kinds of vulgar language.
I stand frozen, I hear several voices. And then it dawns on me that a lively three of foursome is happening in there. I suspect that the high rankings of this pack are spoiling Clarita tremendously.
But that’s non of my business, I have a different mission. I step into the elevator and wait impatiently for it to reach the main floor. As it turns out, I’ll have to look for Saphira myself, as the rankings in this pack are busy with personal matters. I tread to the front door of the packhouse, intending to go to my car and find a cafe or something where I can ask for directions to the training camp. But before I step outside, I hear someone calling me.
“Mercedes. Where are you going so early?” when I turn around, I see Alpha Rainer standing there.
I stare at him in amazement, I assumed he is also involved in the private party in the apartment upstairs. The Alpha notices my facial expression and grins.
“No, Mercedes. I never participate in such extravagances. For me, sex is a private matter, I don’t share,” he conveys dryly. I turn beetroot red when I realize he’s guessed my thoughts. Of course, an Alpha knows everything that happens in his packhouse, my father has reminded me of that many times. Most packhouses are soundproof, but somehow everything gets to the Alpha’s ears anyway.
I shrug, not intending to be upset by the Alpha. “You were going to make sure I speak to Saphira today. Can we do that right away?” I ask hastily. I don’t want to be distracted by this pack’s activities, I need to speak to Saphira now. And Clarita’s behavior is pretty embarrassing, I don’t like the Alpha to think all Silver Moon she-wolves behave like this.
“Yes, I have already ordered that they get today off from training. I’ll take you to the camp myself,” the Alpha indicates. “But let’s have breakfast first. Let’s go to a cafe, it’s unbearably busy in the packhouse today. Come with me, please”. He walks past me out the door, I follow reluctantly. Having breakfast with the Alpha isn’t really one of my priorities today, but I depend on him to get me to Saphira.
When we arrive at his car, he graciously holds the door open for me but makes sure I get very close to him to get in. Annoyed, I walk past him, my shoulder rubbing lightly against his chest. He’s breathing in my face as he bends his head toward me.
Sighing deeply, I take a seat, Alpha Rainer sits next to me. We silently drive into the street and stop at a terrace after a few minutes. I get out before he can come to my side to help me get out. As we walk into the cafe, we are greeted by a blond waitress who examines me curiously.
The woman brings the menu when we find a table in the back. I order a simple meal of pancakes, sausage and mixed fruit, while the Alpha already uses a portion of meat.
“Hmmm, Mercedes. I spoke to Alpha Glary on the phone this morning and reported that you are here to speak to Saphira. He says you are the future Luna of Silver Moon and urged me to treat you with due respect”, he tells me ambiguously. Frowning, I look at Alpha Rainer, searching his face for an indication that he is joking. But he appears dead serious.
Again I sigh deeply, I’m really tired of these persistent admirers. “You must have misunderstood. I am the Luna of Midnight Moon, my mate is Alpha Zane. Glary is just the Alpha’s son of the pack to which I now temporarily belong”, I point out.
Fortunately, our order came at that time. Absently I start on my pancakes, my thoughts are completely on Jace’s situation. I try to suppress my impatience with my host.
“Hmmm, is he also an admirer? You are a beautiful woman, many men want to have you”, he says softly, looking at me straight. “In a few months, if it turns out that Alpha Zane isn’t your fated, please come to Shadow Moon. It might be good to have time away from the two packs,” he offers.
And now I had had enough of all this bullshit.
“Alpha, whatever happens on my birthday, my mate and I will work it out, don’t worry about it. My presence here is because of Saphira and when you are ready, I would like to go to her now”, I answer rudely, my eyes spitting fire.Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
Since I’ve been here, this Alpha has been chasing my pants. And the more I tell him I already have a mate, the more he pushes himself into my life. Are all the high rankings of this pack in heat? Two are already banging my girlfriend in the packhouse and now the Alpha thinks he has to hunt me.
Fortunately, he perfectly notices my mood. With his hands in the air, he’s looking at me now.
“Sorry, I don’t want to intrude. But I do want to let you know that you are welcome here,” he apologizes. Nothing in his attitude and eyes supports his words, however.
I throw the napkin on the table and get up.
The Alpha follows me to the vehicle and we drive off in silence…
