Chapter 585
Chapter 585
Just when she felt like she was at the end of her rope, utterly hopeless, he gave her these tiny
glimpses of hope.
Tonight, he asked her to cancel the press conference. He wanted to help Penelope.
She was furious, distressed, and her heart was cold and dead, but now, amidst a glorious fireworks
display, it was ignited once again.
Why did he always have this power over her heart? “Lucian, what am I to you, really?” she thought.
“Is it… my birthday?”
He nipped at the tip of her ear with a teasing punishment. “Allison, tell me, you didn’t forget your own
birthday?”
She gave him a wry smile and nodded. “I think I really did forget.”
When she started out in showbiz, the company made her change her birthday. The date they released
to the public was a few months after her real birthday. It seemed all the stars would do it to avoid their
personal details getting out.
She didn’t touch her age, just changed the month, but she never told Lucian.
It wasn’t Allison’s real birthday. Her actual, honest-to-goodness birthday was the same day as
Penelope’s.
Penelope and Allison were born on the same day, but Leah thought it was bad luck. Therefore, she had Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
Grace change it, who bumped it up a bit.
The irony was that Allison was the true Flanagan heiress. It was laughable. Even her birthday was not
real.
The fireworks had faded now, but the drone-crafted message still hung in the air: “Happy Birthday, may
you be carefree.”
“From now on, I’ll be there for your every birthday, Allison. For the future, I’ll be with you,” he said,
wrapping his arms around her from behind. He’d misunderstood her so often in the past, but gradually,
she had crept deep into his heart. He was now facing his own feelings. He liked her, and wanted her by
his side for a lifetime.
Allison stared up at the night sky, lost in thought.
Lucian, the eternal iceman, rarely spilled his heart out. He even planned it with efforts. However, Allison
was just staring at the sky. He chuckled, and bit her earlobe slightly, bringing Allison back to reality with
a wince.
“Did you not hear what I just said?” There was a hint of dissatisfaction and hurt in his voice.
Allison really hadn’t heard him. “Sorry, I was just… spaced out.”
He sighed, “You scatterbrain, can’t even remember your own birthday. What I said was… I want to be
with you on your birthdays from now on.”
Allison smiled, turning to wrap her arms around his waist. “Did you make time especially for today?”
Lucian’s lips curled into a half-smile. “What else?”
He’d been dealing with a tough problem at work, but nothing was going to stop him from planning her
birthday. If it had not been for those messed-up photos, things would have been even better. Allison
wouldn’t have to be upset, and Lucian wouldn’t nearly come to blows with her over Penelope.
He’d already asked people to track down the source of those photos and the account that posted them.
Results should be in any minute.
Allison buried her face in his chest. Lucian’s heartbeat was clear in her ears. Biting her lip, Allison
slowly closed her eyes, savoring this moment of peace. “Of course, I love that you’re here to celebrate
with me. I just don’t want to waste your time.”
