Chapter 691
As J spoke, she pretended to open the bag of coffee beans. Hearing J's words, Becky could not help but smirk inwardly.
"Oh, there's no need for that. It's such an expensive item. I really shouldn't. Besides, I don't have much time. Ms. Baker, if you have something to say, please get straight to the point. If it's within my duties, I'll certainly do my best."
J froze for a moment at Becky's response. "It's nothing, really. It's just that, the other night... I wasn't in a good state of mind and acted out of line. I wanted to apologize, Becky. You're not still mad at me, are you?"
As J spoke, she reached out, attempting to take Becky's hand. Becky flinched, feeling goosebumps rise all over her skin. She could not believe how far J would go, pretending to be sincere for Charles' sake.
J clearly looked down on her, yet here she was, putting on this act.
"What's wrong? Are you still upset with me?" J pouted, looking at Becky with a pitiful expression. To anyone else, it would have seemed like Becky had wronged her.
Becky curved her lips into a slight smile, but her gaze was cold. "Ms. Baker, you must be kidding. Why would I be angry with you? We barely know each other, so there's no reason for me to be upset.
"If you're apologizing over that incident, there's really no need. After all, you're not under anyone's supervision at Collosus Group. I'm just a mere secretary, and I certainly don't have the authority to meddle. I have work to get back to, so I won't waste any more of your time."novelbin
"Becky!" As Becky turned to leave, J gritted her teeth and forced herself to speak up. "Why does it have to be like this? I know I was wrong that night, but I was just so upset. I thought—"
"Ms. Baker, there's really no need for this. I'm just doing my job, nothing more. I'm Mr. Hoffman's secretary. Whatever he instructs, I follow. You should be well aware of what kind of person Mr. Hoffman is. I have nothing more to say."
With that, Becky walked off without looking back. She left J standing there, trembling with rage.
It was clear to her now that Becky

had never intended to help her. The benefits J had offered Becky previously only worked because Charles had allowed it. He must have known about the switch with the lottery box that night as well.
J clenched her teeth in frustration. The more Charles rejected her, the more determined she became to be with him, wanting nothing more than to marry him.
"Just wait, Charles. You'll be mine," she muttered under her breath.

After returning to her desk, Becky let out a heavy sigh, feeling a bit exasperated. Just then, Ronald called her over. "If J asks you for anything in the future, go along with
it, he instructed.
"What?" Becky was taken aback, not quite understanding what Ronald meant. "But Mr. Wells, J clearly has bad intentions. She's-"
"It doesn't matter what her
intentions are. Just do as you're
told," Ronald cut her off, raising a hand. "Remember, we both work for Mr. Hoffman. You know how he thinks."
Becky nodded, knowing full well that Charles truly did not like J. Otherwise, there would not have been so much drama.
Still, she could not help but ask, "But why didn't you tell me this earlier, Mr. Wells? I just refused J a moment ago. What should I do now?"
"Don't worry about it. She'll come back to you. J has hit dead ends everywhere else. You're the only option she has left," Ronald replied confidently.
