Chapter 712
He had to admit that Winter was a born actor. That performance was clearly something Xavier had enjoyed.
Xavier observed Winter's demeanor, and the resolve he'd just built started to waver.
Seeing the shift in Xavier's expression, Winter walked over, tugged at his hand like a child throwing a tantrum, and said, "Xavier, didn't you know how I feel about you?"
"Okay, I'm not really mad at you. Just remember to be more careful from now on." Xavier sighed, realizing that he and Winter were still married. No matter how much he disapproved of Winter's actions, they could not just tie the knot and then instantly split up.
"You're aware of the tightrope we're walking with Charles's crowd. With these rumors flying around about you two, it's putting me in a tough spot." "I get it. Honestly, Xavier, I think Charles only treats me well and hooks me up with these opportunities because he respects you. I didn't even know the guy before I met you. Why else would he have helped me? Let's not forget, you're the one who got me into Royal Star Entertainment. Whatever they're saying about me and Charles, it's not like that at all!"
Winter bit her lip, moved closer, and kissed Xavier's cheek. Then, she murmured into his ear, "You know J, Charles's cousin, right? I've got a hunch she's the one stirring the pot. She seems to have it out for me. Actually, she's got it out for any woman who gets near Charles, whether they're involved with him or not."
Xavier squinted as if a light bulb had just turned on in his head. "J?" He ran through his mental rolodex and finally placed her. "Are you saying J's got a thing for Charles?"
Winter gave a firm nod. "I'm telling you the truth At the annual meeting, Charles only announced my new role as a spokesperson. Somehow the pictures of me and Charles got edited to make them look like something they weren't. Xavier, there's something off about the whole thing."
"If it's shady, then steer clear of it," Xavier advised. "Things have settled down now. Maybe it's time you thought about stepping away from showbiz." "What did you just say?"
Winter's face clouded over with frustration. "Xavier, acting is my dream. Plus, we've already dealt with this mess. Why are you still pushing this?"
"What am I pushing?" Xavier's

expression was just as dark. "The entertainment world is full of drama. Haven't you noticed how much trouble you've encountered since you started? The Shaws are loaded, and the Harrises are swimming in cash. Can't I take care of
of you?"
Winter shook her head, a throbbing pain behind his eyes. "This isn't about being taken care of or about money. It's about my dream. I'll listen to you on anything else, but not about giving up my dream."
"You..."
They had argued about this more times than they could count. Xavier had his reasoning, and Winter had her resolve. Despite living under the same roof, they barely exchanged a word on anything that mattered for the next month.
