The Cherished Wife

Chapter 715

"Uh..." Sean's eyes bulged as he stared at Noelle's retreating figure. "Wait! Noelle, I didn't mean me!" Great, he had really messed up. Noelle glanced back with a teasing smile. "Aren't you a big, strong man, Sean?"

"Sure am!" Sean nodded emphatically, then it hit him. "Hold on. How did such a sweet and innocent girl like you start copying Charles's bad habits?"

Noelle's lips quirked up. "Great minds think alike. You came over so late, so I guess you're here to freeload, huh? In my house, you play by my rules, Mr. Smith. Don't you agree?"

Sean's mouth twitched. He mentally kicked himself. Why did he have to be so mouthy?

Noelle might look sweet and gullible, but she was actually tougher to handle than any of those hot-headed heiresses.novelbin

Rubbing his temples, Sean saw Charles emerge from the kitchen and blurted out, "Charles, your wife is crazy!"

"What about my wife?" Charles arched an eyebrow. "If you don't like it here, there's the door!"

Sean was speechless.

He had gotten himself into this mess and would get out of it soon.

Sean slumped onto the tiny stool with a sigh, picking at the greens with a sullen expression. Every so often, he shot Noelle an accusatory look.

Somehow, they managed to finish the meal in peace, and Noelle understood why Charles had made so much. Sean was scarfing down food like he was in a famine.

"Mr. Smith, take it easy. No one's gonna snatch your food!" By the end, Noelle and Charles had stopped eating and just watched Sean wolf down his meal.

Despite his speed, Sean was classy and a true gentleman, even when he was inhaling his food like there was no tomorrow. Noelle noticed Sean's nearly clean plate and quickly poured him some water. "Mr. Smith, when's the last time you ate?"

"Three days!" Sean flashed three fingers. "I haven't had a real meal in three days."

Sean had been in a marathon

surgery session and had only left the

operating table that morning. He was too tired to eat, and he had crashed at home and slept unt now, waking up just in time to come over for dinner.

"Noelle, you have no idea how tough it is for us angels in white," Sean said, faking a sob for effect.

Noelle could not help but smirk and handed him a tissue. "Mr. Smith, you're laying it on thick. Tone down the drama!"

Sean's voice stopped dead, and the

heavy sadness he had been brewing

up vanished instantly. He shot Noelle a peeved look. "What's with you? Doesn't a normal girl's heart just melt with pity when she sees a guy like me? Shouldn't you be

comforting me or something?"

"Comforting you?" Noelle pointed back and forth between Sean and herself, then gave Charles a doubtful glance.

Charles' eyes narrowed just a touch

before he looked over at Sean. Sean quickly laughed it off. "No, no, that's not necessary. Noelle's comfort is all for Charles, ha!" Sean's smile did not quite reach his eyes as he added, "Seriously, do you guys have to do this? I came here to lend a hand, you know!"

"Help us?" Noelle was taken aback, staring at Sean, puzzled. "What could you possibly help us with? Aren't you just here for the food?"
