Chapter 43
Chapter 43
Judy came out of the house holding a cream-colored tote bag. She was shocked as she saw Clark and Dominic looking toward her.
Judy purposefully left the house later to avoid Clark and Dominic. But what were the odds of meeting them both at the same time?
"Good morning, Juju!" Dominic greeted Judy over Clark, who stood between them.
Judy subconsciously smiled toward Dominic, but her eyes saw Clark's cold stare, causing her smile to quickly faded.
Instead, she nodded lightly and stood by the door awkwardly.
"Come, I'll send you to the hospital," Dominic said. His voice was warm and kind, like the morning sunshine.
"No need to trouble you. I'm going to the office. I can send Judy along the way," Clark said. His cold voice weirdly made the warm morning chilly.
Judy went poker-faced.
"Juju..." Dominic looked with concerned eyes.
Judy avoided Dominic's eyes, held her tote bag tightly, and slowly walked toward Clark's car under the latter's frightening gaze.
Clark did not say a word from start to finish.
Dominic looked at Judy entering the car and felt dejected.
Clark walked past Dominic and placed his hand on Dominic's shoulder. He said coldly, "You should call her Mrs. Reid."
Dominic was startled slightly.
Clark's car drove out the front gate of the manor. The courtyard felt oddly chilling despite it being midsummer.
Judy felt increasingly guilty as she saw Dominic's figure slowly disappear from the rearview mirror.
"What's wrong? Are you that unwilling to sit in my car?" Clark asked. His emotionless voice startled Judy, and she quickly shook her head to deny it.
"Are you disappointed because you're not in Dominic's car then?" Clark asked again.
Judy again shook her head and wrote. "No, I don't want to sit in his car. Even if I'm not sitting in your car right now, I wouldn't go with him."
"Is that so?" Clark questioned.
"Aunt Sally doesn't like me getting too close with Dominic. I will keep my distance with him," Judy wrote.
Judy had learned the hard way to survive living with Clark. She needed to take the initiative and explain herself. That way, she could avoid any unnecessary misunderstanding.
Clark humped and replied, "That's thoughtful of you." Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.
Sally had always thought highly of Dominic's marriage. She would not accept ordinary women, not to mention someone like Judy.
Clark glanced at Judy before looking out the window and said, "Stay away from Dominic. Don't bring trouble to yourself."
Judy nodded in acknowledgment.
Clark was bored by Judy's dull expression, so he leaned back and closed his eyes to rest.
The scenery outside the window quickly moved past them.
The car remained silent, and Judy's heart soon calmed down following a steady breathing from Clark seated next to her.
Judy timidly turned toward Clark. The scar on his face looked terrifying usually, but now that he was asleep, it was strangely shallow.
Judy observed for some time until she noticed Sebastian, the chauffeur, was looking through the rearview mirror and was shocked.
She quickly bent over and tried to hide the awkwardness by picking up her tote bag, which fell underneath the seats. But as she picked up her tote bag, her arm was grabbed by a big hand.
Judy was staggered. She thought Clark had woken up, but she looked up and saw his eyes were still closed.
Cold sweats rolled down his forehead along the scar. It seemed like Clark was having a nightmare.
A nightmare could even haunt a powerful, serious man like him. Judy couldn't help but care for him a little.
After regaining her composure, Judy tried to withdraw her hand carefully.
"Sapphire," Clark muttered and shot open his eyes. His sharp gaze was like a pair of cold knives stabbing into Judy's soul, sending a shiver down her spine, almost taking her breath away.
