Chapter 20
Chapter 20
Chapter 20 His Story “But, Dad…” Alexander was getting impatient. Since they were young, he had never had the opportunity to see Julian make a fool of himself. Alexander wished he could barge inside immediately and view the climax with his own eyes. He prayed that Julian would be so startled that he would lose his ability to reproduce. “Break the door open,” Tony commanded sternly. He wanted to see how they would explain themselves after doing such an absurd thing. Bang! Alexander stepped back before he swiftly gave the door a hard kick. The door was flung open. Inside the room, Annalise was sitting in front of the dressing table, and Julian was combing her hair. As the man was too rough with the comb, she complained, “Hey, that hurts. Do it gently.” Everyone was stunned. They wondered what was going on. The moment they burst through the door, Julian threw the comb to the ground and glared at everyone who had entered with bad intentions. “Is this the teaching of the Barton family? Or the teaching of the Parks family?” His statement simultaneously insulted both Kent and Tony for being rude. “How about you? You’re the eldest son of the Parks family, and you’re combing a woman’s hair in a woman’s room? Is this what the Parks family has taught you?” Tony was enraged. The gaze he gave Annalise was filled with contempt as he thought, “This country bumpkin has no other skills, but she has a knack for seducing a man.”
Julian was a cold and indifferent person. Many noble women in Jadeborough wanted to get closer to him, but he had never given them a second glance. Tony deemed that he had severely underestimated Annalise, not knowing what kind of trick she had used to seduce Julian. “My mom died when I was young, and I don’t have a dad. Who was there to teach me
anything? Let’s go, Annie,” Julian countered, taking Annalise’s hand and leaving with her.. “Get your ass back here, Julian!” Tony exploded. “Well, well. Is this what the Parks family has taught you? To be rude to others?” Julian snorted and led Annalise away. Behind him, Tony was breathless with anger. “Y-You…” Once they got into the car, Annalise, while driving, asked Julian, “Are you okay?” “I’m fine. Thanks for your help today,” Julian replied. “You’re welcome. It’s not a big deal anyway.” She recalled the self-control he had when she poked him with the needles. He had used less than ten minutes to recover. “Are you good at medicine?” Julian probed. He had investigated the Barton family when he came to Horington and had a rough understanding of the Barton family. Kent Barton was a heartless person. His sister had entrusted the company and her daughter to him, but he had only taken over the company and abandoned Annalise in a village. His wife, Bethany Langdon, was not a kind woman either. While Abigail had a good upbringing and was considered more talented than her peers, she harbored evil Intentions and had a terrible personality. Only Annalise was different from the rest of the Barton family.
Even though she grew up in a village and had never received a formal education, she would volunteer at the orphanage once every month. On the days she volunteered, she would educate the children in singing and reading as well as some basic greetings in Ustranasion. Julian had seen the video of her teaching the children. She treated them with affection and was fluent in Ustranasion. He would never believe it if someone told him that Annalise was uncultured. Besides volunteering at the orphanage monthly, she would donate to the orphanage and retirement house in the form of things. Each time she did, the number of things she donated had to be delivered by a truck. Most of them were essential items the orphanage and houses lacked, such as books for the children and entertainment facilities, seasonal change of clothes, and summer and winter blankets for the elderly.. All these things she provided needed a lot of money. Julian had also found out that Annalise had been donating since she was 13 years old. At that time, Kent had not brought Annalise back from the village. He did not give her a single cent while she was there too. This proved that Annalise had her source of income despite hailing from a village. The fact that she had a source of income at the age of 15, Julian concluded that someone must be helping her behind the scenes. However, he could not uncover that person’s identity, so the mysterious person must have a significant background. In regards to their marriage, Julian did not make the decision to marry her solely because of what he had learned about her and her kind heart. It was because she had standards. Even if she had to suffer from her decision, she would not hesitate to leave behind an unworthy man. “Not exactly. I’m just average. When I was a kid, I learned a little from a barefoot doctor This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
in the village,” Annalise answered. “Does the barefoot doctor know a lot and can treat any illness?” Julian asked with a smile. Annalise smiled as well and raised an eyebrow. “Of course. The village doctor doesn’t have a specialty and treats everything.” “So, are you saying that you’re an all-around doctor?” Julian chuckled. His mood had significantly improved when he saw her mischievous expression. If it had been in the past, he would not have calmed down so soon after getting into an argument with his father. Each time he did, he had had to sleep for a long time to get over it. Julian had been telling himself to ignore that heartless man, yet he could not help but feel hurt sometimes. “I don’t have a doctor’s license. It’s just some tricks I learned from the village doctor. If I saw it before, then I have the know-how; but if not, then I don’t,” she said. “Besides medicine, what else do you know?” Julian asked curiously. “Does playing with cats and dogs count?” She knew Julian was not in a good mood, so she flashed him at smile while driving. The smile on her face warmed Julian’s heart. He returned the smile. “Try it.” “Forget it. You’re neither a cat nor a dog. I’ll just imitate a rooster’s crow.” With, she began crowing as a rooster would. Her imitation was perfect and no different from a real rooster. Julian could not stifle his laughter. Wearing a smile on his lips, he turned to look out the window and felt that the scenery had just become more beautiful. “I think your dad cares for you, but he’s showing it the wrong way. If there’s a misunderstanding, you can try communicating with each other,” Annalise suggested. “It’s also fate that you guys can be father and son.” In her heart, she believed that all kinds of meeting in life were fated to be and should be
cherished. The reason Julian’s father despised her probably stemmed from his love for Julian too. Julian’s smile faded away, and he said, “It’s not a misunderstanding. The mean things he told me aren’t because he cares for me. He just thinks I’ve embarrassed him by marrying you. The only thing he cares about is his image and reputation, not me.” “Is that so?” Annalise thought and fell silent. As if a dam had broken, he continued, “Once upon a time, I had a happy and harmonious family too. He was the one who ruined it by bringing his mistress and Alexander back, causing my mother to end her own life. After Mom passed away, his mistress moved into the main residence, and Alexander took my room.” He paused briefly, then added, “No matter how much I complained, he would always tell me that I should give. in to my younger brother.” What he did not say out loud but only in his mind was, “I don’t know if I would ever get past my trauma if Grandpa had not brought me away.” That was the last time he had cried in his life. While listening to his story, Annalise felt bad for him and held his hand in hers.
