Chapter 229
Lemira heard the familiar voice and saw Orion coming down the hallway.
She asked, surprised, "Orvin, w-when did you get here?" She could hardly believe she was seeing Orion here, of all places!
Orion, with a stern face, softened his expression as he approached Lemira, "You okay?"
"I'm fine. What could possibly happen?"
Lemira, beaming, walked up and hooked her arm through Orion's, "Let's go."Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
"Hold it right there!"
Asher glared at Lemira coldly, "If you dare leave now, and the cops show up, you'll be fleeing the scene!"
Evelina, struggling through her pain, got up from the ground and said in tears, "Asher, you saw it, I just wanted to convince Lemmy to apologize to the family and come back home. I didn't expect her to get angry and push me down the stairs!" Only then did Asher notice Evelina and walked over to help her up. His face hardened as he spoke, "Eve, don't worry. I will make sure justice is served on your behalf."
Turning to his secretary, Asher bellowed, "Call the police, now!"
Evelina, still in pain but putting on a sorrowful act, said, "Asher, if we call the cops, Lemmy will have a criminal record. Let's just forget it. An apology will do."
Seeing Evelina's generous and understanding demeanor, Asher felt a wave of sympathy.
He questioned Lemira, "Did you hear that? You hurt Eve, yet she's so kind and worried about you getting a record. Look at what you've done. Are you still human? Is this how I raised you?"
But Lemira's ears were suddenly covered as those words were spoken, and she looked up in surprise into his warm, profound gaze.
Orion whispered reassuringly, "Don't listen. It's all filth."
Lemira's heart fluttered uncontrollably, emotions stirred up at the moment, her inner joy overwhelming her as sweet as honey.

She had been trying to control her feelings for Orion, but here he was, storming back into her world. It was hard not to fall for him.
"Lemira, I'm talking to you, are you deaf?"
Lemira snapped back to reality with a click of her tongue. She turned to Asher and Evelina, "My ears are fine, but perhaps someone should get their eyes checked."
"Lemira, if you apologize to Eve on your knees before the cops arrive, we'll drop the charges." Asher gazed at Lemira, still hoping to give her a chance. After all, she was his sister, and despite her flaws, he didn't want her to end up with a record.
Lemira found the suggestion laughable. But it was indeed very much in line with the Langstons' way of doing things.
They always talked down to her from their high horses, consistent as ever.
Lemira's voice dripped with sarcasm, "Asking me to apologize to Evelina again, am I born to apologize to her?"
"I'm saying this for your own good!"
"Ha, you surely look like you're doing this for my good, but I just find it disgusting!"
Asher was taken aback, "Lemira, I'm giving you a chance here!"
Orion's tone was defiant, "She doesn't need anyone to give her chances!"
"Lemira, you think just because you have this man backing you up, you're untouchable? This is Orvin, not that small town." "Keep calling it a small town, but don't forget, Asher, you're from that small town too. One should never forget their roots!" Lemira suddenly felt that Asher had changed a lot. Orvin, indeed, a glitzy place that made people easily lose themselves. Orion looked down at Lemira, "If you feel uncomfortable, you can leave anytime. I'll handle things here."
"No need for the hassle. Since they want to wait for the police, let's wait."
Lemira coldly gazed at Asher, "By the way, you mentioned intentional harm could lead to a record, right?"
