Chapter 340
He glanced down to open the chat and saw the question mark she had sent.
A slight smirk curved his lips as he typed back, [How's the plaster?]
Lemira hadn't expected him to respond so quickly.
She immediately replied, [Pretty good, where did you buy it?]
[Just grab another one when you're done with that, and try to get some rest early.]
Seeing his message, Lemira wondered if the man really missed her point.
He didn't even answer her question!
After sending a string of ellipses and getting no response this time, she tossed her phone aside. Whatever, she thought, she'll just ignore him.
The weekend arrived, and the grand finale was set to take place at the stadium.
Lemira, along with the team from her base, headed out to the stadium.
They had their tickets ready, planning to meet up inside the venue.
While in the cab, Lemira snapped a photo of her ticket and posted it on Facebook: "Off to watch the game."
In her previous life, she had been a direct participant in this very competition.
It was an experience that had left a deep mark on her.
Thankfully, in this life, Alaric's team didn't even qualify for the competition, and Evelina had no chance to steal her opportunity.
Thinking about it made her happy.
Arriving at the stadium, Lemira saw a huge crowd of fans, all buzzing about today's game.
She and Janice were outside, coordinating with the club members while two seniors went in early to check attendance.
As the match was about to start and the crowd outside began to thin, Lemira was ready to head in when she spotted the Langstons alighting from their car. Evelina was trailing behind Asher. Seeing this, Lemira's lips curled in disdain before she turned to walk towards the stadium.
"Lemira, stop right there!"
She didn't even turn her head, but a bodyguard quickly caught up to her, blocking her path.
She looked back, clearly annoyed.
Asher approached with a stern face:
"Let's forget about the Al project issue. We accept our loss, but do you really have to take Eve and Alaric to court? How could you face our parents?"
"If you all have the face to do so, why wouldn't I?"
Lemira's biggest vulnerability in this life was her parents.
She always carried a sense of guilt and self-blame.
"I heard from Eve last night that you've always felt slighted and jealous of how we treated her. But we brought her into our home for your sake, to repay a debt of gratitude. Yet, you repay kindness with enmity. You've let our parents down! Nor do you have the right to visit their graves."
Asher's words cut deep, knowing exactly how to hurt her, how to make her back down.
Evelina, feigning innocence, added, "Lemira, know we've had our differences over the years, but I've always seen you as my only family. I was wrong this time; please forgive me just this once."
Asher, seeing Evelina's seemingly sensible demeanor, felt a sense of pride.
He coldly huffed at Lemira, "Now that Eve has stepped down, you should know what to do. Otherwise, you're dishonoring the memory of our parents and Evelina's late father!" Evelina's eyelid twitched; her father wasn't dead.
This secret, one she'd never reveal, was her only claim to stay within the Langston family.
Lemira looked up at the sky, swallowing the hatred she felt at that moment.
"You're right," she said calmly, "family shouldn't dwell on such matters."
Evelina breathed a sigh of relief. Had this bitch really let it go, not pursuing the lawsuit?novelbin
But why did Evelina feel an ominous premonition twitching in her eye?
