Chapter 1687
"What are you looking at, Ms. Sophie?"
Gordon suddenly spoke, causing Sophie to realize where her gaze had landed. She instinctively turned her head away, "Mr. Gordon, you seem to be quite familiar with The Silent Shadows. It appears you've known there would be a day like this, having laid out your plans well in advance, haven't you?"
"Yes."
Gordon smiled faintly and said, "Ms. Sophie, your performance was remarkable. I am quite pleased."
"I have a question that I wish Mr. Gordon could help me clarify."
Colby, who was not far away, had already noticed the situation. Jenna was tending to Adler's wounds and, seeing her brother silently staring at Sophie and Gordon from a distance, she said, "Colby, come help me bandage Adler."
Ever since Jenna had learned about the past, she knew this day would come.
Her brother feared nothing in the world but the thought of losing Sophie.
But some things just needed to be cleared up.
"Ms. Sophie, please, ask."
Gordon's tone remained calm, his eyes carrying politeness and detachment. It was this look that made Sophie struggle to speak.
Asking would mean assuming too much.
Not asking, however, left her believing her assumptions were correct.
"When I was younger, I mean before I was kidnapped."
Hearing Sophie mention the kidnapping, Gordon's eyelashes fluttered almost imperceptibly.
"I had a high fever when I was little, which caused some memory loss. I don't remember much from before, but I do remember the swing set at Aldridge Estate."
"Ms. Sophie, are you asking if you had a connection with the Aldridge family when you were younger?"
"Yes, I am asking Mr. Gordon for an answer."novelbin
"Swing sets around the world don't differ much in appearance. Perhaps Ms. Sophie had visited Aldridge Estate as a child, but I simply don't remember." "Is it that you don't remember, or you don't want to tell me?"
Sophie's straightforwardness made Rick, standing behind Gordon, frown. "Ms. Sophie, please be cautious with your words. The gentleman has no reason to conceal anything from you. You shouldn't ask him that."
Gordon slowly raised a hand, stopping Rick from speaking further, and smiled, "Over a decade ago, Ms. Sophie and Harold were kidnapped, and my aunt was a witness. If Ms. Sophie does not believe my words, ask May, and all will be clear."
May, not far away, opened her mouth as if she wanted to say something, but when Gordon looked at her, May's complexion changed.
Gordon smiled and said, "Aunt, you are the eldest here. Your words, Ms. Sophie will surely believe."
"Ms. May, are you willing to share what happened back then with me?"
Seeing Sophie's eager gaze, May composed herself and said, "Back then... both you and Harold were kidnapped because that year, you were visiting the Aldridge family, thus fell into misfortune..." May's voice suddenly choked up as she spoke, "It was my fault. By the time I realized something was wrong, it was already too late..."
"Mom, it's not your fault."
"Yes, aunt, we don't blame you at all."
Harold supported May, who then turned to Sophie, saying, "Sophie, everything Lianne mentioned is true. It was all just an accident. Your aunt has no reason to lie to you, and there's no need for you to overthink."
"But I..."
"Sophie."
